Turnigy Bolt Li-HV Battery Packs

Higher Voltage Battery Packs

High Performance Batteries

The new Turnigy Bolt Li-HV batteries are looking to change the game. Where most Lipo cells are charged to 4.2V, these cells can go up to 4.35V. In a 3S battery that means a full charge at 13.05V, nearly half a volt higher than a standard Lipo. And that's not all, they can be discharged at 65C with 130C Burts! You can also charge them at 2C. These packs will be phenomenal for performance models with the higher starting voltage providing some extra punch right from the get go. Currently you can get Bolt batteries in 2S, 3S, 4S, and 6S with capacities ranging from 2400-5400mAH.

I wonder if we will see these soon in a 2 cell ROAR approved hard case? There will be quite a stink at the tracks with these as a clear advantage!

Threads on these already underway.

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2220628

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2221435

and as usua HK did not lead the way bur merely barrowed (?) someone else's idea and most likely infringed on their R&D.

On a side note wish there could be a New Battery developed, being developed , or even released without there being a half dozen Threads started here on it.

This is a news article, Charles. Its not a standard thread; you may notice the different style. It gets more exposure than a thread by being located on the left side of the home page and in the aircraft channel. Hope that helps.

Great then perhaps you or one of he moderators could combie all of the other Threads on this new LiPoly to this one. What I fail to see is how having numeriuos threads on the same new product / advancement helps the masses as the data is scattered here and there instead of being in one easier to read / Search thread.

I thought this thread was for the new Turnigy BOLT series batteries not the new lico chemistry batteries.

But i cant wait to see BOLT series include some 1400mah batteries to feed us hungry mini quad flyers!

Hey Guys,

I don't mean to sound like a Party pooper, but I've just test driven these cells and I was very underwhelmed.

I picked up a 4S 2800mAh 65C pack. The cells only charged to 4.2V a cell and I just flew it on my EF MXS 48" exp swinging a 12x6 prop running a Hacker A30-14L v3. Sorry guys my 6 month old ThunderPower 70C pack blew it off the park.

It's a little disappointing because I have had a good run with the 65C Nanotechs in the 3S and 4S varieties.

It could very well be a quality control issue but this is what I have found.

Sorry guys

Danny

Electric,

It's an older charger a Hyperion EOS0606i so that could be my issue. What's a good current spec charger I should be using?

Thanks mate.

Danny,
There is a new Turnigy 80 and 200 watt charger that can charge High Voltage LiPo to 4.35 volt.
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...n_Charger.html

Probably many of the other major charger manufacturer will have firmware upgrades to their existing chargers (that can be firmware upgradable by a user) to alllow setting TVC up to 4.35 volt.

In iCharger 4010 user manual it is shown You can set in Charge setup 4.35 volt if needed.
http://icharger.co.nz/manuals/4010DUO.pdf
(page 13)

iCharger 308 Duo has also same settings possibility in Charge setup:
http://icharger.co.nz/manuals/308DUO.pdf
(page 16)

And iCharger 406 Duo can do it also:

The final voltage on a lipo is determined by the charger, not the lipo. I've seen lipos accidentally charged past 4.35V per cell due to charger settings - not that that's good for them or you of course!

So if you just attach one of these to a charger set for 4.2V, you're going to get 4.2V.

Hey bossee and Dave H,

Many thanks for the steer on that. I'll give those a run. At least it's been an instructional experience everyone can learn from.

All the Best
