Mark Twain ...
When the doctrine of allegiance to party can utterly up-end a man's moral constitution and make a temporary fool of him besides, what excuse are you going to offer for preaching it, teaching it, extending it, perpetuating it?
Shall you say, the best good of the country demands allegiance to party? Shall you also say it demands that a man kick his truth and his conscience into the gutter, and become a mouthing lunatic, besides?
A lot of this is going on right now with regards to Fast and Furious ... but the Republicans are just as guilty of doing this in the past.

Yea, Maxinne. Let's.
You say that the Republicans are "just" as guilty in the past.
Well, I'd like you to offer some examples of that. Really.
Because at this moment, the examples of mindless (emphasis on "mindless") "allegiance to doctrine" is all on the Left, what is so poignantly referred to as the "mouthing lunatics".
Or do you want to now refer to our Constitutional principles and precepts as "doctrine" in order to twist your accusation around?
Here's another clueless, witless, mindless person who has totally given herself over to "allegiance to doctrine" with no thought given as to exactly what her doctrine IS:
Emily's problem isn't that Americans aren't "informed". Her problem is that Americans aren't being "informed" the way that SHE wants Americans to be "informed".
You know, like "Dan Rather" informed. That kind of informed.
And that's what makes Emily a mouthing lunatic.
If people who profess faith in and fight for our Constitutional principles are successfully portrayed as "idealogues", then the true enemies of this country will have won.
