As for my Cougar... I really need trailing links because the CG is right on the main wheels and it's very light on the nose.

Do flaperons help slow the Cougar done? It does land hotter than I'd like.
Do you fly off of pavement or grass/dirt?

Thanks

Mine are glued, but since retracts are on the fuse (not the wings) and there are no flaps (just ailerons) it might be possible to have detachable wings because of the simplicity of reconnecting.

FYI - for people looking for the ARF - ParkRCModels seems like the only US vendor selling it (I stumbled upon it a few days ago).

Paved runway.

I have not flown the Cougar since forever - been enjoying the CMP Diablo 90mm.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the replies, but as I have one on order now I would really appreciate it if someone could post a summary of all the (necessary?) modifications needed to improve reliability, ruggedness and performance (enough to operate from a grass strip)?

Also, in one of these forums I found some photographs and description of a mod to make the wings detachable, which I can no longer find. Can anyone help out?

Thanks. Possibly a little late but if I can get the above info I will post back with my experiences.

My friend Luke flew his many times without any mods ... Seems a bit light on that nosegear. I think Bruce also had one, and that one flew well too.

Luke put a mercury alloy fan in it on 8S, I think he just bought the whole $150 unit and stuck it in

It was btw quite windy the day I took the video.

F9F 8 Cougar Luke (2 min 12 sec)

Hi Michael, I love how well your aircraft flys, although I suspect much of that is down to the Pilot!

I am putting one together right now.

For your detachable wings, did you do anything else other than drill/tap the wing spar for an m3? screw? I was wondering if it is worth adding an extra carbon fibre spar or dowel to help prevent the wings rotating?

Also, would you do the modification any differently if you had to do it again?
Thanks.
Chris, Australia.

Thanks for that, Herb. It does fly really well, despite the wind.

I am planning to fly mine initially with a stock Dr Mad Thrust 6S unit, but I note that 8S seems to be the more popular choice for this model.

As it happens I do have a spare 8S Mercury unit (originally fitted to a CMP Hawk before the wings folded in flight due to a poor manufacturing/gluing issue) so I may switch to that, dependant upon how it flies in the 6S configuration.

The CMP Cougar is a pound heavier than the CMP Hawk - I've had both.

6s is probably a little weak for it, but perfect for the Hawk. The Cougar has the wing area to handle the extra weight.

Not sure about the CMP Cougar, but the CMP Hawk / T-45 has been fitted with a JetCat P-20.

You can read about it here

http://www.rc-network.de/forum/showt...von-Jamara-CMP

It's in German but you can use google translate, or just look at the pics

In my opinion the CMP T-45 flies a lot better with and EDF setup, but some larger edf jets fly quite well with a P-20 (eg HTG & FF).

Occasionally one finds silly conversions of smaller foam jets (eg Freewing) to P-20's, which regularly go up in flames.

Composite models are more suited to taking the heat of dual wall pipes, but weight is always an issue with these china-made polyester bricks.
