Now I'm paying for it...

ARGH! Went to the 3rd Annual Jim Rice Memorial Flyin yesterday. Since it was about 75 miles away (1 1/2 hrs) I didn't put on any sun block before leaving - wife did pack it in the snacks bag.

When we got there fairly early - The place was already JUMPING! Hastily grabbed a spot to throw up our tent, tossed it and all the gear, got registered, impounded, t-shirted, walked the line (TOYS!!!) watched demos and got a pin. Really needed that pin, after all, father and son had brought 8 planes to fly - from a 8ft big bird to a 23" indoor foamie. And we flew them all! And yes, I did live up to my name with 2 crashes - it's that landing thing, especially when a plane is not responding right (accounts for one "arrival"). The other "arrival" was becuase I screwed up the flare.

IT WAS GREAT! Great site - Kingsbury Aerodrome, 10 miles east of Seguin, off I10. Huge field, well mowed, our runway grass was short - no problems taking off and the full sized runway was well mowed also. I did mention the one 1:1 scale (wonderfully detailed ) Cub takeoff demo, the rubber free-flight demo, the R/C combat demo (5 nuts - several good streamer cuts and 1 smashing midair - it was GREAT!), the C/L combat demo (brings back memories from long ago), the Team JR demo hovering that MONSTER thing right over the grass, several IMAC types, the R/C parachutist drop (GRIN!), and the F-16 turbine demo - AWESOME!

Oh and the event folks did a great job too. Jim Rice (it's a memorial for his dad, whole extended family showed up)(2nd Chance Hobbies) and the Tri-City Flyers did a wonderful job (AGAIN, I might add) putting it on and running the field, etc.

Winds were mild to gentle breeze, temp was in mid-80's but the humidity was HIGH. Drank a lot of water and sports drinks to keep dehydration away. Still had a great day and a lot of fun. And picked up an AWFUL sun burn because I was STUPID and forgot the sun block in all the fun. Unloading the van this am was PAINFUL every time the sun hit me.

It's a 2 day event but we only went Sat. When I last saw the registery mid-Saturday afternoon, they had over 76 entries and were discussing what do too since they had prepared only 75 pilot packs! It was great.

If you didn't make it this year, you may want to write it in your plans for next year. If you did make, I know it's already in you plans!
Crash & BP
P.S. And three pilots did not manage to fly out a Thunder Power 2S4P 7.8A lipo pack on my son's trainer. We tried and tried and tried but we ran out of juice before it did!

real men don't use sunblock.... what's a little melanoma? tell it to the marines...... JUST KIDDING... I put the stuff on before every trip out to fly.. a real PITA, but it sure beats the pain and damage from a severse sunburn.. Even a sun "tan" is bad.. It's no more than an irreversible deterioration of the dermis. I can understand forgetting to put it on though, we've all done that.

Isn't Viagra supposed to help that?

Oh...wait... never mind.

Sounds like you had a great time at a dandy fly-in, Crash!

No Mark, viagra won't help permanent skin damage, I think it might help a "shrinkage" problem though...

Just a silly question: If you put a Viagra tab in your plane before you fly will it "get it up quicker", or "keep it up longer"??? Always willing to try new things for better flying .....R....

Another thing to consider :

I'm ginger (very light skinned) and I've always preferred covering up (long sleeves and hats) to oils myself.
