Build Log
1929 Ryan Brougham

I have never built a model totally from scratch. That is, built one from just a set of 3 views. I want to do this at least once, so now is the time !

A year ago, Don Olsen sent me a pic of his Hosteler Navion. In the picture's background, there was a set of 3 views hanging on the wall. I inquired about them, and Don sent them to me . They were 3 views for a Ryan Brougham, an airframe similar in design to the Spirit of St Louis.

I contacted Hemikiller on recomendations from members of the Groups. Here's a link to his blog. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/member.php?u=82275 Dennis blew up my 3 views to a 102" wingspan, or 1/5 scale. He did an excellent job, and I recommend him to anyone considering a project similar to mine.

Although the 3 views show a radial version, there was also a V-8. ( see pics) I'm still deciding which version to persue.

They did such a beautiful job on the V-8 cowl that it would be a shame not to duplicate that one.

There is a problem with this theory.

That's what all you high rollers say when questioned about how plain aircraft just aren't classy enough for your type. No. You have to have at least the "Brougham" model.

Right now, I have 3 views of a Brougham model. LOL

Thanks for jumping in, guys. We should have some fun while I muddle my way through this build.

From time to time, I'll tap you guys for your expertise. Don has been a huge help, already.

I'm really looking forward to this project. I hope to have some pics by tomorrow.

I'll also explain how I plan to accomplish this. It isn't as complicated as some may fear.

As many of you already know, I like to keep things as simple as possible. This build will follow that guideline.

I'm not setting out to build a scale masterpiece. I plan to add some detail, but I won't go too crazy with it. I'm looking for something unusual, to fly at events.

Talle tried to wander off, today. I had the shop door open, and she made a short lived escape. LOL
