Evolution .46 motor problems

Ok, just finished my first kit build about a month ago. The plane is a sig four star 40. It flies like a dream but I am having problems with the motor. (Evo .46). I can only get full rpm at about 1/2 throttle. And the carburetor isn't even fully open. When I get to 3/4 it starts blubbering. Anywhere above that it dies. I can fly it this way, just not sure I'm getting full performance. What could be wrong? I have the alpha 40 and the same motor runs very nice.

have you ever tuned an engine before?

check list. below 1/2 throttle you low speed needle controls mixture, make sure you tank height is set correctly, and check the fuel lines for tears.

the engine forum would be better place to post this as there is a sticky on how to tune a engine you should read that will give you a good place to start.

Sounds like it is running too rich and/or the low speed needle adjustment is too rich.

If you are very new to glow engines, find a local club and see if somebody will help you tune the engine. I'll bet a dozen donuts somebody will.

If you get help there, join the club and receive more help than you can imagine.

Yes I tuned my alpha's motor. But I had a guy at the field tune this one for me. Also when I am in the air, it will start pulsing then rpm will drop. Too rich?

Swap out the plug. I generally have a basic distrust of plugs that come with motors. 8 bucks for a plug on top of what you paid for the motor is usually more than worth it.

Btw, This may not even be an issue, but when I spin the prop, it seems like its rubbing against something. With my alpha, I can turn the prop and it feels smooth. I can not only feel but hear it too.

Do you have that "flywheel" off. When I decited to put a two blade prop on I didn't take the flywheel off, the dubro spinner was different then the evo one and the spinner was rubbing on the engine housing. To make a long story short, I had a problem like yours and I took off the flywheel and it works now. Just make sure nothing is rubbing on the engine housing.

No the flywheel is still on. I tried taking it off, but no matter how much I tightened the prop, it wouldn't stay on. It only stays on with the flywheel. I have taken the prop off and flywheel and have turned the shaft with my hand and still get the same rubbing sound and feel.

Thanks for the replies. Is there a way I could move this thread to the engine forum?

I think you just have to repost it, just ignore the people that give you grief.
