Sad Day

It is my regret to inform of the passing of a long time attendee of the NEAT Fair as well as a significant presence in the running of SEFF, Ric Vaughn.

Ric passed early this morning the 1st of September after a long battle with Cancer.

God speed Ric, we will always remember your generosity to the hobby.

Tom

I just saw this on Facebook, it's a sad day for our community. Ric was a force in the hobby, I always enjoyed our conversations.

I remember reading Ric's threads then finally meeting him at NEAT. He was a great guy - so friendly and willing to share. I fondly remember his hyper-powered glider and "the catch".

I did not know he had cancer. RIP Ric - you'll be missed.

I first met Ric at one of the last KRC meets at Queen City Airport. Then at SEFF and NEAT. Always a gentleman and helpful to all. Peace to you and your loved ones.

A truely sad day, I met Ric in 2004, and always made sure to stop and chat every neat fair since! God Speed Ric you will be missed!!!

The one thing I can remember that makes me smile is one of the past Neats, I had just arrived, and I believe it was the year my truck broke down and I just unloaded to find one of my large planes had been damaged, some serious dents in the sheeting. Ric happened upon me in my moment of distress as he had just arrived and wanted to say hi, offered to help, and showed me a couple little things to fix the dents easily, and sure enough they worked!

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Ric. My condolences to his family and friends. Ric was a porch regular at the Reynold's Inn in Roscoe, NY where we stay for the NEAT Fair. Each year he would make the drive from Georgia to help out at the NEAT. Although he would normally have a buddy with him, a few year's ago his wife came with him because his heart had recently required a restart. Few things slowed him down and the stories from his days as a commercial airline pilot were endless. Ric was a good man with a Southern charm. I can still picture him catching his own HLG launch a few years back after the prop came off. As usual, he just smiled.
