Aeroworks .60-.90 Extra with 20cc

Getting back into flying after about 3 years. Gonna stick with the smaller stuff but want gassers. I was wondering if anyone has the extra with a 20cc and what servos they use. I am leaning towards the hitec 5625's. They actually recommend the 5645's I think but even the 5625's I think are way more than enough and faster. Also any suggestions on a lightweight digital throttle servo. Any reccommendations on a prop for the dl20cc.

Kbailey,

I own the AW Extra 300 with a VVRC 20cc engine. I’m using HS-5645’s on all of the control surfaces and a 5625 on the throttle. These servos are more than enough for the airframe. The 5645s are more than fast enough as you don’t need a lot of travel out of them. That being said, you could probably get away with the 5625’s all around…

I would highly recommend a 17x6 prop for the 20cc engine. I tried it with a 16x8 and she was too fast for my liking and harder to get her to settle down for a landing!

Overall a nice plane but a little heavy with the 20cc for the size…

Best of luck!

I had one and it made it for about 6 minutes in the air... it had MKS servos, I would recommend based on mine to get new hardware, the elevator failed and it went down.

I do agree with the 17x6 prop... I have thought about getting another profile 20cc but may end up trying a VVRC one or building something, as sthill said this was pretty heavy for its size.

Not exactly the same plane, but I'm running HS-5685MH in my so-called 46-60 Edge 540T gasser. They are a few bucks cheaper than the 5645 and if you run them at 7.4, they are both stronger and faster, and I think otherwise identical. The way I see it, you're paying an extra 3-5 bucks per servo to lock yourself in to 6V and getting 1/100 sec faster response at that voltage over the 5685, but you could buy yourself some high voltage LiFe packs for less than the cost difference of a whole set. Something to think about. I run 4 of them and a JR DS821HV for throttle off a 2S 2000 LiPo and after a full day of flying the Lipo is still above 8V.
