Interesting nose overs on landing have always done more damage to my Spitfire than belly landing. Only once have I destroyed a servo and that was when over shot the "strip" and she slid into a slightly raised mound of gravel. If you look at the underside it sits on the radiators not the wing. Fibre glassing the radiators is all that needs doing as the wing does not normally touch the ground.

hehe, then MAKE it work... whether for belly landing, or landing gear.
I land on a football oval and have no issues with LG. Thanks to the increased rake, but also quite heavy in total (1.6Kg or so) which keeps it well planted. Make sure you land with SOME Angle of Attack - not a nice flown in 2 wheeler (which would be fine to do on a hard runway). I would say it is about half way form level to tail wheel down sort of angle.
I taxi back from the "runway" end back to myself and as good as zero danger of nosing over then (again due to the weight - but also power/Up Elevator).
But I do need to STRAIGHTEN the LG every 1,2,3,4 flights - depending on if the landing was a bit harsh, or if it "crabbed" and put sideways pressure on them. It only takes about 5 minutes to remove, straighten, replace one or both as required.
Hmmm, now that I think about it... the Spitfire (touch wood!!) must be the only plane I have that has not crashed, or had notable damage, for a LONG LONG time now! And it gets flown quite a lot since its last 'rest' period!
