Hi,

Johannes, Wolfgang (=Quaxi), and me have been busy lately with a remake of an antique wing from 1936, the Graubele 4. Wolfgang had the great idea of making a new design of it for a meeting on ancient rc-models at the club he is flying at. The meeting was yesterday and we managed to have the design ready and flying, and presented two of our three Graubele 4. So much on the background story. Essentially, it is the Graubele 4 from 1936 with a shiny new aerodynamic design.


I though it would be great to share some of the building details with you.

Nicely done Andres.I just Googled it and the Ben Buckle plan came up.Does your "shiny new"design use the same foils?

What a great vintage plane. It looks light. Love the elevons. I'll bet that they are very effective. That big pod makes for a friendly plane with lots of ground clearance for landing. A classic dope and tissue plane. I would be interested in seeing a naked frame construction photo if you happen to have one.

@Stuart: we used new airfoils to increase the performance. Ben Buckle states it is from 1937. I was not able to see a date on the plan but I knew it was either from 1936 or 1937. I took my chance with 36 . So the original design is "only" 75 years old...

These are great videos !

It looks cold and windy there. You are the daring one to fly in such conditions. Nice job handling the wind gusts.

This plane must weight nothing. It climbs like crazy on the high start. Maybe there is helium in the pod?

Love the landing in "Grauberle 4 Hochstart 1 ". It's smooth like a 10 kg scale plane.

I wish I had a pod.

Go to Vimeo's site for full resolution. This is only a small choice of the flights that made it into the camera. I've had other longer flights, including a high start last Friday night (22:00 - 22:30) with Wolfgang. We even aerotowed the Graubele once. I can tell, that was a wild experience.


@Stuart: It was Wolfgang's choice. He wanted something different, but I do not know the particular reason. Accessibility of the plan? Maybe he can explain this better than me...

as far as I know, the original Graubele 4 plans are not available for download. A copy can be purchased at e.g. Ben Buckle's site.
