Question
Topflite Corsair Kit vs ARF engine size

Who knows why Topflite has different engine requirements for the ARF vs Kit versions of the 86" span Corsair?

Giant Scale ARF 86.5" span.
Weight 23 - 25 lbs
55cc = 3.35 CI (50 to 55 cc)

Giant Scale Kit 86.5" span.
Weight 24 - 26l bs
40cc to to 70cc = (2.5 to 4.1)

This is just a stab in the dark, but maybe for nose weight. I know the kit built version has a long 1/4-20 nut and bolt that is part of the tail construction that adds a bit of tail weight on a plane with a long tail moment. That is one of the reasons many(most) of the kit built ones use a G-62.

The engine recommendations are usually directly related to what engines Hobbico markets, and to those that are popular at the time of kit introduction.

I'm sure that a 40cc gasser would fly that ARF just fine.

Good point! Also true that the GS Topflite ARF's fly fine at the lower end of the engine recommendations. A good example is the P-51. Most in my club fly them on US 41 or G45 and they fly just fine. Yet the manual recommends up to a 70cc!!!
