*******Lake Hills******* Video/Pics and Info

Hello Fellow Slopers,

Thought I would start a new thread on one of the best Santa Ana front side flying sites in Riverside CA. Lake Hills is a Santa Ana only slope , winds must be N or NE. It is a great slope, but the landings are tough due to turbulence, lack of landing space and large boulders. Fast heavy foam is preferred, but of course you can fly whatever your willing to sacrifice. Weight is not an issue, the heavier the better, in good Santa Anaís. The lift is similar to Pt. Fermin and Cajon pass if not better on a good Santa Ana day.

This is a drive up and fly hill if you have a 2wd truck or suv. We do not fly at the water tower( itís to close to houses) the flying area is the peak in front of the tower. Space is limited at the top, and parking is to the left of the small Plato.

Directions: From the 91 exit La Sierra head south drive up for aprox
3mi make a right on Lake Crest and an immediate left on Lake Point Dr. Follow that road to the top where you will make a right on Old lake Rd. Continue past the water tower around the bend and down the hill. At the bottom of the hill you will see houses and a dirt road to your right. Follow that to the peak and a small taste of Santa Ana heaven.

Have Fun,

Gary

This hill is very flyable today. The Santa Ana's are gusting in the 20 to 30 mph range. I'm sure it's much higher at the top. I'll be there today fully loaded with lead about 1:00 pm

It was a good day at LH. The wind was a little cold, but very flyable. John had a small mishap with his Destiny and met the hard ground on a landing pass. Adrian and I were skying the M60's. Dave was doing his diving propeller spins with his Shark. Way too much fun doing those high speed dives with M60.

Fun place for Santa Anas.

I am done trying to DS it. I would love someone to prove it can be done here. I am also done trying to land moldies until someone shows me about five in a row.

My Destiny is fixed. The tough part was cutting a new servo tray. The rotor just reached up and grabbed it like a cartoon hand and slammed it.

I live a few miles from the bottom of Lake Hills and will post when this hill is flyable.
Santa Ana are cranking again today in Riverside !!
Wind: From NNE at 13 mph gusting to 17 mph
Humidity: 15%
Pressure: 30.05 in.
Dew Point: 11įF
Visibility: 10.0 miles
I'm standing in my front yard and it's blowing much more than what weather.com is indicating.
Bring your fastest foam!! This is M60, JW, and Bw heaven

Dave, If the wind blowing strait into my front door, I know Lake Hills is great. I love flying this almost vertical hill, and thought I'd share in the fun.

Take Care

Looks like I missed out on the wind. I’m a day late and a dollar short as the saying goes.

I agree with Dan I have always flown in front of the water tower and landed on the lush grass in the valley.

I have flown both spots.
The first time I went there I did not know where to fly from and I got lucky and flew from the spot in front of the water tower. When other people started showing up they all went to the lower spot. Not sure why, maybe the parking being closer and you can fly from your tailgate. (Read close to their beer).
So I went down there to fly with them. Now it seems ( In the multiple times I have been there.) everyone flyís from that lower spot.
I donít care they both seem like good spots to me.

As Gary said, the tower is a bit close to the houses. We wouldn't want anyone having to jump a fence into someone's backyard. (Especially at night.) I also do not enjoy hiking anymore, thank you Devil Dogs.

I like the idea of landing in the saddle, except for the hidden treasures (rocks) everywhere. Regardless of where you fly at this spot, the lift is great everywhere given those big Santa Anas.
