Question
Audible timer app for f3j landing practice?

I can't believe that this is so hard to find!
I'm looking for a timer app that will SAY thirty, twenty nine, twenty weight, twenty seven, etc....all the way down to zero. Does any such (simple to use) app exist?
I'm not seeing the f3j timer being very useful for this. I also have the f3k timer. It has something that kind of works, but it's a pain to set up.
I want to practice landings. I want to press a button on my phone that starts the timer, toss my plane, and shoot a landing and be able to hear the timer count down.
Help!!!

Don't know of an app, but there are mp3 files out there for this. I have a 1min one I run on repeat using a cheap MP3 player and earpiece and launch when I think the times right, usually about 1:30 dead air from my bungee.
Only downside is I get sick of JoJo's voice ;-)

I was wondering about this same thing recently. Back in the day I had a Walkman with a cassette tape in it. I could record myself counting down to zero and take it to the field. It clipped to my pants at the waist so when I was ready to shoot a landing I'd just hit a button and start a two minute countdown. Was perfect! It's been in storage 20 years and the batteries leaked so it's ruined. I was thinking recently what kind of recording devices are available now but haven't looked in to it. App won't work for me since I have a dumb phone. I bet if I found a Walkman I couldn't find a cassette tape for it.

Thanks for the file Lester, I'll see if I can put it to use.

Rather than using your phone, you could just use a talking timer (talkingtimer.com).

That will be an option, but it turns out I had almost exactly what I need in my f3kmaster app all along.
It always counted down the last 10 seconds to the second, but there was a 3 minute prep time and usually a 3-10 minute working window that you had to wait for to get to hear it!
Turns out I can make a custom contest task, so I did. A 10 second prep time, followed by a 25 second working window.
Also turns out I can program the lady to say whatever seconds I want. She just had default seconds to say. So I now have her saying every second from 20 down to 0. This will get me by for now!
If you guys aren't flying f3k, you're missing out, for one, but you may still find the app useful, so check it out in the play store: search f3k master.

This is similar to the player I have, drag and drop the file using the USB, set to repeat and done. Looks like they've upgraded to lithium but mine runs on a single AAA cell, plenty of practice sessions from one battery.

I converted the file when I first saw it to a .wma format and put it on my 18MZ. Tap the center dial and it plays!!I can use an ear piece if I don't want to bug others.

Here are a variety of sound files - including the ones we will use at F3J in the Desert.
http://www.rmsadenver.com/f3jtracks.htm

I put the 1 Min practice on repeat for landings. I used the 1 minute prep/10 min working time to practice a real round.

Should work on most android or iOS phone...

For Android this could work if one settle with countdown the last ten seconds. ...remaining part of the time it will be audio every 10 seconds.

I have used Talking Timers for years. They are ok, but have one major fault - I keeping loosing them in the flying field

Now I have new Jeti tx, it can do job and is easy to program. I think most modern tx can do this since they anyway have speech function for telemetry.

Here's a file I made with Jim's voice to practiced timed landings. Loop it on an MP3 player.
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showa...mentid=6488627

I have one with a much sexier voice (sorry Jim), but it's too large of a file to post on here.

Edit: Actually I found one that is small enough to post here.
