Hi, i am new in the teme of sailplanes and gliders and i have a Dragonfly Strong and a BLIZZARD 3.4 meters but i wanna convert to electric because now i am living on a flat area and i would like to have an electric gliders can you give me an advise if is posible to convert this beutifull birds to electric, and what motors do you recomend , i have the motor MVVS 5.6/690 http://www.espritmodel.com/mvvs-46-5...ess-motor.aspx and i wanna know if this motor is good or is too strong for this bird or what motor do you recomend.

Basically you are going to take your DragonFly Strong, a winched plane and convert it to a DragonFly Strong-E

Likely you could just buy the E fuselage and retain the one you have for Hi-start/winch/slope

CG would remain the same, in terms of starting point on the specs, then you tune to taste. Pablo Pinto prefers his CG more rearward. Your smileage may vary.

Hi Pablo: The sialplane version that i am flying is around 68 oz. The motor that you are looking at puts out approx 700 watts. If you add battery weight and motor weigh I am guessing that it would be closer 80-85 oz if you eliminate the receiver pack. This works out to ~135-140 watts/lb which should give it vertical performace at peak power. Quite frankly 400 watts with a cheap outrunner would be all you need and give it a healthy climb rate.

I flew mine with CG about 102 mm back from LE did OK, considering conversion to electric for ALES type stuff

I wanted more vertical. I started with a geared Mega and ended up with a geared Neu. Wonderful glider.

I have recently got me a Strong X and building it as we speak.
Just a question on the stabilizer. I would like to make it removable for transport. Is there a way to fix it properly? Or do you all fix the stabilizer in place without making it removable?

Due to the molded wing tips, some CDs may disqualify it from woodie competition. Woodies are generally thought to be non-arf types that are built by a modeller... though that isn't stated in the rules as Ray Hayes wrote them. It's just a kind of an understanding... implied, if you will.

Don't get me wrong... I would let you fly it, but some might not. Just be prepared for that.
