Art Hobby Falco E conversion

I'm putting a motor on my Falco but in order to do that I have to switch out my Falco fuse for the Agena fuse. I got all the parts from Andre except the Agena build instructions so I'll need some advice. Should be fun though.

On the Agena schematic the boom's length is measured as 550 to 600 mm. Anyone know what determines the boom's final length?

Beats me. Weight in the nose to get the CG correct?

Andre sent me a PDF of the building instructions but nothing in it about the length of the boom LOL.

Yeah, I'll get everything together and check the cg before it's all glued down.

I caught the idea to place the receiver behind the servos then I read the instructions and that's what they call for. LOL

Anyway, moving along nicely. I want to get to the tail construction before I do anything else. Ok motor first then tail.

Looks like a neat conversion. What motor and battery are you going to use? The stripes, you paint those on or use covering?

Thanks Lou, I'm having fun. I'm using the motor Art Hobby sells for the Agena: http://www.arthobby.com/index.php?pa...ub_category=65

The Stripe are painted on with Krylon Fusion. I have a stripe theme going with my planes. Kind of old school.

I might go with this battery. http://www.motionrc.com/admiral-1100...specifications

Or the 1000mAh 2S 7.4V 30C. It's lighter and smaller and will probably be fine for what I need.

The only difference between the EV and the ES is the wing design so all other EV and ES parts are the same. Since I'm using my Falco wing it doesn't matter.

Added cool satin black to my canopy.

AND I came up with a REALLY cool way to glue the motor mount in the nose. Here's what you do: Get a coin slightly smaller than the opening and add several washers via CA to one side bringing the thickness to 5mm. Make sure the washers are on the bottom as the coin sits on the table. Place a small sheet of Saran Wrap over the coin to protect it from any glue then you can drop in the glued mount into the fuse and place the fuse nose over the coin. Tap the mount until it's flat against the coin. You get a level and consistent 5mm all around. The hard part is getting the right size coin. I used a British coin which fit perfectly for this model.

Like the colors. It reminded me of years ago when you would see similar on wood canoes, paddles and other wood items. Always liked it.

As for the battery, go with as high of a C rating that you can. I recently puffed a couple of 3s 25c pushing the plane a touch to hard. They are still usable as the puffing is very minor but it was a reminder to be more cautious.

Looks like it is all coming along quite nicely.

Lou: So you think a 1000mAh 2S 7.4V 30C would be better than a 1100mAh 3S 11.1V 25C ? I haven't done much research on lipos yet.

A higher 'C' discharge rate is always better...and usually more expensive. The higher rate can take more abuse power wise. If you have already the 25c they will work fine for you.

Mine puffed because I did too long and too many motor burns going to altitude. Totally my fault and not the batteries, they were Thunderpowers. For what I was doing I should have had something like 55c discharge rate batteries.

If you were doing something like ALES or F5J then the 25c would definitely not be a good choice. For general putzing around you should be fine. Sorry if I alarmed you.

No problem. I have one 25c batt but the others have a higher discharge rate which I'll probably go with for this plane. Thanks for the info.
