Just won the 6th annual Beijing F3K contest - the premier F3K contest in China - with my light Neos carbon Can't express how happy I am, have been practicing for this contest for a year. Flew all day with my 250gram Neos Carbon, never even thought about pulling out my 280gram standard when the wind picked up during the flyoffs.
1st place - Thomas Lee - 39XX points
2nd place - Kelly (Tasbori) - 36XX point.
3rd place - Adnan (randomtask) - 32XX points
awesome contest and I had my share of good luck during the flyoffs, everything clicked and ran into some low level help a couple times.

Thanks guys for the encouragements, I had a great time and I felt something 'click' regarding air reading this weekend.
More comments on the contest later after they start the contest report thread, but man I need to work on my launches. Seriously out launched by a couple guys every single flight.

I've finally started to put some more time on the Neos. I actually finished building it during the TS and was able to maiden I then for a few mins.
My setup so far:
-rudderless (this will change)
-MKS 6100 for the elevator
-d47 for ailerons (this will change-- getting too much drift)
-400nihm viper pack
Launch- 2mm aileron camber and up elevator
Cruise- 3 to 4mm
Thermal- 6 to 7mm
Flight conditions were calm at 9am in Elsinore. Sunny as usual and thermals are already active.
Launches are very quiet! Even without any gap seals, the plane launches surprisingly silent. Initial launches are minimal since I have some rattling in the fuze-- this is my lack of building skills talking. Lol. With 50 to 60% power, the plane is going 150 feet. I'll put more power once I have everything tightened up in the fuze.
The plane likes to fly with a little bit more speed, much like the Stobel V3, when I had 2mm less camber. Dialing the camber listed above tamed and slowed the plane down nicely. The ailerons are huge all the way to the wingtips! This is evidenced by the crisp roll response so I decreased the aileron travel by a few mm up and down. With the lack of rudder control, I dialed in some reverse differential to help with yaw. Mixing rudder control to the ailerons made things more tolerable but still gives some unnecessary roll response when all that's needed is bump to line the nose up properly.
A rudder will be installed.
In the calm conditions, the plane carved really nice thermal circles!!! I didn't see any nose or wingtip drop during the turn. It just maintained! NICE!!! The 6 or 7mm camber allows it turn tightly. When the wind blew a little and needed to drift, it required an unnecessary bank and yank move when all that was needed was minor yaw to bring it back in line. I might give this plane a disservice if I gave opinions without the controls I'm used to and comfortable with.
So far, I'm really impressed with the plane. This is the first time to fly the Zone wings and I can't wait to fly it in windier and active conditions.

Try getting rid of the up camber for the launch. It should be completely unnecessary and is likely costing you some launch height by making the rotation less efficient. Launch mode, for rotation and climb, should be speed mode. The foils were designed that way.
Of course, test and see what you get! It is on the full power launches where the differences will emerge most obviously.
