Whats the Nicest >2m Rudder/Elevator Woodie You've Flown?

Hi guys,

So what's the nicest small woodie to fly on 2 channels? And why?
I have a 60" HiLite but its a bit of a barge.
So handlaunch, dlg, bungee or whatever type but as long as its a woodie

Not sure if this qualifies but I have a 2m RES Miles that is really nice, and i'd say the best.

RO8 after glassing the area where the pod meets the boom. Unfortunately these kits are no longer manufactured.

I have been working on bringing back the RO-8 for awhile now. Plans are just about complete. The only real change I made was for it to have a three piece wing. Also changed to a dowel in the front of the center panel going into a bulkhead with a nylon screw in the rear of the wing to hold it together. Of course laser cut parts instead of the die cut originals. I can post a reduced file of the plans as they are currently.

This is my favorite 2m right now. The Petrel was scratch built from a set of plan's from Sailplane and Electric Modeler Oct. 2001 issue. The only thing's not wood are the spar's, L/e, back spar and the tail boom. It make's me look like a good pilot alot.

Love my OLY 650 but the Cumic Plus was awesome...right up until it became kindling.

Very timely. Starting a Drifter II tomorrow. Chrysalis and Olympic 650 to follow. But in my mind my first Wanderer holds the spot, and I think that's because it was first, and a long time ago, and it's taken on a mythic quality in my memories...my first true sailplane, first launch off a hi-start, first time it caught a thermal, warm sunny days and deep cobalt blue skies and sunlight through the wings, and I don't think I will ever recapture those days, but I'm trying.....

Well, I would say the Sagitta 600 too, overall.
But since the OP is asking for under 2M, mmmm HOB 2x6 in third, EW Early Bird in second and a scratch built 48" Wisp in 1st place.

Larry Jolly's Icarus was a fine model. Simple build and a sweetheart to fly, of course I am biased because I like V tails. The Icarus was the original hand launch, it's design was before the 60 inch handlaunch/dlg was even thought of.

I've built and flown no less than five 2-meter Free Spirits, once available as plans from Carstens, designed by Leon Kinkaid, who designed several other classic eighty's designs. Brick-outhouse-rugged, mostly 1/16 balsa sheet, possible to build to 20 ounces (really!).

I've just acquired a rib-set for another one, and hope to put it together this Spring. It will be a nice no-spoiler option for our local Hiss and Boink contests.

No pictures, sorry. Straight-forward, pure conventional polyhedral, semi-open wing construction. Two-piece wing for ease of transport, glued-on horizontal to make up for that.

Yours, Greg

My little Wanderer fills my floating 2 meter urge even if it a couple of inches short.
Thinking of a bent wing to go on my old Osprey fuse as I hear they fly just as nice R/E as they do full house.

One of a very few 2 meter wood sailplane kits designed in this century. Well done Mark. Jack Womack, aka schrederman, did a very nice build and flight review of this sailplane. Jack gave it two thumbs up.
