Byron F16XL

Hey guys, I was looking around the net for something diffrent, as Im looking for another project.

I just finished a Byron F16 Trubine build and really like the size of the Byron, and really love Delta wings as I really miss my Delta Dart 106.

So I came accose a short thread about converting Byron F16 to the F16XL. Found a link, sent in my $15 and just recived a full scale print out on makeing your own XL delta wing.

Now Ill be onest, I still new in my mind, (only been flying for 3 1/2 years now) and while I have modded a lot of ARF's, I have never buit anything from a set of plans.

I was thinking of actuly keeping this one edf, I was thinking of useing a XPS fan or Byron Fan on 14s with as much thrust as I can get, and add some thrust vecotring.

As the bryron F16 is already a flooter, and with almost 2x the wing as the orginal, I figured a little exstra battery wont hurt things. and may come out around the same weight due to no elevator control etc.

So I can find little on this convershion. And Im currently looking for a good or bad fuse and rudder, with just the stock wire landing gear to try to build my own.

So do any of you have any info on this conveshion?

Can I just send the plans to a foam cutter and have them make the foam coars?

Thanks Mike

F-16xl

The first model I saw done of this was done by Ivan Munninghoff, he was a contributer to one of the r/c magazines and did an article on it . Sorry I am drawing a blank on the name of the now defunct magazine. I bet, A10pilot, can help some on this because as I recall he and Ivan were good friends.

to do it scale i believe there where two fuse section added ,and a bend in the fuse ,so the tail would clear when landing at high AOA. i've seen the nasa bird fly a few years back ,seems to fly well . i know C/N did one to a HP F-16 and it flew well also.

I had started this project last year, but I have run into a host of problems.

1st The plans are not to scale, meaning if you use the plans as templates, the parts will not fit.

2nd I got some quotes to have some cores cut and they want an outrageous price to do so. Here again the plans are not scaled correctly, cores will not be cut correctly.

So I decided to just start all over again. Been working on a new airfoil and wing platform so that it would look a little more correct proportions, with out extending the fuse.

So while working of the XL problems this cause me to think about the Falcon 21. (got deltas on the brain) and got side tracked working on this project.

The Falcon 21 actually looks more scale than the F-16XL.

But the work stopped when the T-33 got may attention.

Oh well maybe later, so much to do and so little time.

Yes it is. It was a concept plane before the XL. But notice the wings now belong to the F22.

Quotes around $200.00 per set.

Like I said the places are scaled wrong. You will have to fix them first to even cut cores.

Mike, I have a pamphlet on the xl that was written by Ivan and has all the info as well as a contact for the correct wing build, I did have everything to do it as well as a complete correct set of plans, but I think I sent them to someone else who was in need. sucks to get old You probably have the same thing, but if you need these I think I can scan it and email it.
