Yet another PBY

This one is designed to fly from a grass field, hand-launch.

Many years ago I watched a Catalina at an airshow. My abiding memory is its very-slow speed. So I aimed for a light model. Even so, it flies at two or three times scale speed.

Span 59"......weight 36 oz.....wing loading 11 oz/sq ft......2 motors, 50gram, 1400Kv.....batts 3S, 2.2Ah [just balanced].......wattmeter shows 220W at 10.6V.

Motor wires

The extension leads, from ESCs to motors, are made of single-strand, varnish-insulated winding wire. 20SWG [.036" dia], for 10A per motor. [photos 1,2]

Leads are embedded in the wing LE, and soldered to the motor. [photos 3,4,5]

The two ESCs are mounted on a rack, to aid cooling. ESC outputs are soldered to the extension leads. [photos 6,7,8]

That lot disappears into the battery bay.[photo 9]

There are two cooling-air scoops on the wing pylon. The air exits through two open windows.

Nice one Peter.

I can still remember my old Cat', great plane to fly.

It was based on an old control line plan, 62" span, flew from a hand launch, and after a lot of 'dancing', actually flew off water.

The motors were the Acoms brushed with the gearboxes, and the original plastic Acoms props, plus a 6 cell Nicad pack.

I just found the original plans are still available -- http://www.myhobbystore.co.uk/produc...ina-plan-cl606

Was a loooong time ago.

Nice! I like your clever approach to wiring the motors.
