Super Mono X

Ripmax - Joysway Super Mono X (2 min 3 sec)

$150, yes it's plastic. Thoughts?

My review:

I haven't been able to run her yet as a grub screw was left off the drive dog and I need to go pick one up (glad I tested her in the tub first).

Pictures:

Here you can see the missing grub screw as well as the drain plug on the upper hull::

Size comparison to my Double Horse 7009:

Reciever is a 4 Channel:

Water-proof O ring:

Water cooled ESC:

Hull thickness is a about 3mm

Perfect candidate for a straight shaft with flex end:

Brushless outrunner:

Inside Rear:

Inside Front:

Motor water block:

Accesories include the 2.4 Ghz Tx, 1800 mAH 3S lipo, spare prop and canopy gasket, 2 allen wrenches, and lip charger with AC wall plug as well as DC alligator clips:

Included Lipo charger:

Charge ports for 3S and 2S:

DC input:

Guts:

Self-righting test. I can only see her not self-righting in a a freak turnover in glassy conditions:

Super Mono X self-righting (0 min 47 sec)

Hopefully it won't be hard to find a grub screw for the drive dog and do a video run.

I'm just about to pull the trigger on this. It's so hard to find Joysway boats in the US. The one I'm about to buy says it comes with lipo and charger (normally most higher-end boats don't). I guess I'll have to suffer with lubing the shaft every run (why can't someone make something like a greasable fitting like on u-joints), unless I find a way to rig up an internal u-joint and use a straight shaft.

That's not too bad actually, it is a small boat. There are lots of people who don't have the skills to drive a boat like that, avoiding the bank by throttling down, nice.

Regards, Jan.

So I'm seeing alot of positive comments. For $150, this doesn't look like a bad deal? I'm not going to regret this purchase as if I bought a Traxxas?

You can't really compare the Spartan and a 45 cm mini mono...
Relatively speaking, everything on the Spartan is bigger and more robust, so it should last longer, but the Spartan is capable of higher speed, which puts more strain on the components.

I'm guessing the Super Mono X has the stronger hull, it terms of plastic thickness per weight, but I wouldn't crash both boats at full speed...

Regards, Jan.

I dropped the hammer on it. Told the vendor if it comes with Lipo and charger to proceed with the order, but if it doesn't, cancel it. I guess I'll find out Monday.

You don't have to grease the flex shaft every run, but you should take it out and dry it off, then re-grease and re-install it after you're done running for the day.

Looks like what I've been looking for in size and price. I went ahead and ordered one today from AlleRC.com, my favorite place to buy hyperion batteries. Hopefullly, I can give you all some newb rc boater feedback next weekend.

Great!! Let us know if yours comes with Lipo and charger. Title says \w but underneath it says you have to purchase seperately. On the Chineese websites I see packages with and without lipo and charger.

I'm really hoping I can covert this to straight shaft or straight\flex hybrid.

AlleRC looks like twin of EmpireRC, which is where I got mine from, but it looks like EmpireRC is just a front for a suite of RC vendors.

Not sure what the big hate for flex shafts is? They work and they work well, there's a reason it's the drive system of choice for electric, nitro and gas boats.

You still have to keep a solid shaft greased properly, so it won't save you any maintenance by swapping to a solid shaft.

In all seriousness, it takes about 5 minutes tops to remove, dry, grease and re-install a flex shaft in most boats.
