well I gave in and bought a new motor. It's a typhoon 1700kv jobby. and gues what... I got a flash of 83 amps and 1300+ watts on 6s. I think the real problem is my watt meter. this has been very expensive indeed. Needless to say that the thrust off the fan (out of the model) I could hardly stand behind. Such was the force.

Disho. I have my CS impeller in my wemo shroud. Go for it. Sounds like we have the same setup.

Hi Shane, for what it's worth I've just bought a CS 90 with a Leopard 3674 1650kv motor for my Hunter.

The supplier quoted figures for this setup on 6 cells are 2.4 Kg thrust at 86A

FanCalc gives 2.7 Kg at 89A

Both of these work out around the 1700 -1800 Watt mark, so I gues you're right about the Watt meter!

Hi Peter, it's the ex-Fly Fly one. I'm looking for the AUW to be in the region of 2.5 - 2.75Kg, a bit up from the standard due to larger motor and batteries but should be fine on the wing loading front.
I've also done a bit of CF re-inforcement in the fuselage and intend to finish with wbpu and glass cloth.
I've fitted Eflite retracts with the supplied oleo struts.

I'll post the results here.

Those FlyFly oleos and axles/wheels are a bit like shopping trolley stuff! LOL
My F-22 nose wheel 'exploded' its hub. Very cheap brittle plastic, which I could see when I put it all together - and should have changed - but figured as much as they are not very good, it would still work. But as it turned out... not for long....
Sideways forces did it of course, probably combined with the speed involved, but you can get that total easily enough at times. They are just really flakey things....

For around 3000 watts thrust is a half pound higher but I'd expect that cause your volts are higher under load also.

What packs are you using again?

Re the supplied oleos, I know just what you mean Peter! Lol They'll have to do until I can find suitable replacements - the mains are easy, it's the nosewheel leg that's tricky to find.

HobbyKing has a great series of excellent quality oleos, cheap!
Plus dual wheel for nose use.

True. Wish I had a vid camera instead of a still camera doing video.

I've pulled the fan apart again as it won't stay in balance. I think I have it now.
Makes a big difference in rpm when it's balanced and the blades of the rotor are spinning flat.
I've roughed up all the surfaces of the rotor adapter to keep it from spinning round under load and added glue between blades and blue loctite to
the base of the adapter. Took a while to get the adapter perfectly smooth on my kinda worn out motor.
Charging up batts now.

New thrust test with video.
You can hear how awful the HET bearings are. They've been like that since I got this motor installed in my Stu 80mm.

Thrust leveled out at 10 lbs 9 Oz. It was 10lbs 12 Oz max. No idea of efflux. But about 400 rpm more than previous test with same setup.

Good news is that the fan is still in balance after this test. So I'll keep it in one piece for now. OH! Yea...And it didn't explode!!!

I think these rotors will be obsolete once we can all get a hold of the one piece ones.
The rollers are just Ace Hardware drawer roller. Essentially just a sliding shelf with no walls.
