Matchpoint could you elaborate a little. Did you need longer shafts because the motor does not fit inside the tube, or was there other factors involved.

Instead of taking the ribs away from the SK motor you can also take away around .5mm from the inside of the can holder with a 5usd whole drill...I think I have the bit posted upthread.

The SK3 560kv motor HK sells can have the shaft changed with a 8mm steel shaft from MC-Master Car.... I bought around 4 motors worth of 8mm shaft....20usd just to make sure

Then you reinforce the mount and PU the blades..

Took me a couple of hours (I changed the shaft on an scorpion motor though) and well worth it.

The sound you see in all my 120mm vids is the fan with a slight unbalance at low to mid RPM so they can run quieter than what you hear in the vid...

75usd - SK3 motor
75usd - fan
90usd - 14s 120 esc

18lbs 12oz of thrust on 14s at 120 amp 250-ish usd for everything and some elbow grease = nice

I turned down the cooling fins on a lathe.
I bored out the motor housing slightly
I reinforced the motor mount with a carbon fiber sleeve.
I PU'd the blades.
I bought the 8mm turnigy shafts off hobbyking that are 103mm long, had a new snapring groove cut.
Press fit in new shaft. Shimmed accordingly.
Reinforced top of motor mount with more carbon.

I have three of these. Here is #1 before dynamic balance.

Sounds good. Nice mods ! I have fiddled a lot with mine and found th best upgrade to be a collect type blade holder instead of the grub screws onto the shaft. Check out scatsbob previous posts. Good to know the .sk3 motor works out. Let us know how it keeps up!

By the way, what is the ring around the shroud? Looks like a piece of wire ?

With all this talk of using cheapo outrunners (i.e from Leadershobby)... anybody try to use the Eflite BL32 1010kv motor? I have one from a dead Scimitar... it appears to be the right size for this fan and might be okay in the 6s to 8s range.

I'm going to be doing the same here soon for a Byron F16 but I'm going to use the HK 880kv motor on 6s....hopefully around 120 - 130 amps around 11lbs of thrust

I think a good 8s motor would be in the 740is...

Shoot, there was a 740kv scorpion on runryder a while ago, should've picked it up.

I'm thinking there are a lot of 50 - 55 + mm motors that can handle around 3000 watts easily and turns watts into RPMs

Is the eflight motor 50mm?

regards

Gah. I thought it was, but I just measured the diamter. 40mm. I guess it fits a 90mm fan only?

It'll expand into the keying of the blade base and not allow the blades to slip out via centrifugal force.....as easy

Don't hold them, put them in the blade holder as before with the shaft adapter

It can be messy...grease the shaft adapter up
