Lens cloth - you can find it at a camera shop for around $4.00, it won't scratch the lens.

Related question - if one incorporates downward facing cameras on an AP platform, is it possible to add a small, essentially sacrifical, piece of glass or plastic to protect the camera lens without distorting the image?

Depending on the camera and how big the lens is. I use a UV filter on my Sony DSCF717 to protect the lens - in this case the lens screws right onto the body. Although, you'd probably have to figure out way to fabricate on the protective lens if you're using a small AP camera.

1. Lightly blow away dust with Dust Off or canned air (no compressor air !).
2. Use microfiber lenscleaning cloth. (NOT a lens tissue)
3. If there are any type of spots or fingerprints still on the lens use a cleaning fluid like ROR Residual Oil Remover with the cloth. (see picture below)

If there's any type of grit on the lens that the canned air didn't get off, try lightly using a lens brush.
