Best 5.8ghz setup for under 500$..

Hello, I'm trying to get the best 5.8ghz set up (max range) for a wing. I'm trying to stay between 400-500$. I'll be using a Taranis and l9r. Would be happy with 1-2 mile range. Is there a one stop shop instead of ordering through different sites?

Thanks in advanced.

Just look at the current record and you have the answer: 24km with RC305 200mW set.
Curious, it is not even expensive ! is actually the cheapest choice on the market, one of those case where "you get what you pay..." simply don't apply.
As a side note, be prepared to pay more for the antennas than the electronic gear, and this is not wonder why... the same gear with stock antennas is not good for more than 1km

Let me add to Renatoa's response:

They key to range is in the antennas and a good receiver, not the transmitter. High gain antennas offer much longer range, but they have a narrow "beam" you need to fly within. Circular polarization at 5.8GHz is a must as well. This pushes the cost of the antennas up considerably.

This is a video explaining Rf communication and how it works which should shed more light on this subject:

How to be successful in FPV part 4 - The antenna system (9 min 15 sec)

Nothing wrong with that setup at all, add that helical to the goggles and you should be able to do 2 miles easy.

Geoff

Worst choice you could do... our advices were useless.
You bought the shortest range you could get for the biggest price you can pay.

It doesn't cost anything to be polite
With the cost of the goggles included in the setup he bought, the price wasn't too bad.

How so? That's a pretty common setup that a LOT of people use. I'm sure he will be pleased with that setup and even more so once he picks up one of Alex helical.

No need to get all bent out of shape

You come across as a bit of an a**hole.
That was polite. Just because he tells it how it is, does not make it rude.

Hello Geoff !I like your FPV system and the price for it too ! I would like to fit up a FPV on my DJI Phantom 1.1.1. . Stock transmitter 2.4 Ghz. My Mobius as a video feed (I could see a Mobius on your plane I think) . Would be any lower quality in the received video if I will replace 400mw Tx with 200 mw one ? I do not need too far distance ( 1 km is enough for me ) , but I need the best possible video on my LCD monitor ( maybe one as you have mentioned ) . Thank you in advance ,Mac

Hi Mac, 200mw will easily get you 1 km with good antennas. I have tried the live out on the Mobius and ,while the image quality is decent, I much prefer the wide dynamic range of the dedicated FPV camera. In certain lighting the Mobius will give a very poor image of the ground(almost completely black) as seen in this video. Look at the 2:20 mark to see the difference between the FPV camera(top right) and the Mobius in the main image.
