Here are the specs for the three wings:
  • 5 cell batt pack
  • .25 Solid FG rod in stock location
  • .032 Carbon subTE spar Edit: decided to go with .22x.090 aquired at a good price.
  • 3 layers of 3M extreme strapping tape
  • Monokote
  • Oversized Coroplast winglets
  • Upgraded balsa elevons
  • Sullivan 4-40 linkages and "gold'n'rods"
  • DuBro "T-Style" control horns
  • Std size analog servos start 8" from CL, up against the spar, just in front of the CG

I'm still debating if I should use the std ribbon spar on these. Maybe I will use some of the .080 FG rod I have in an I-beam.

SWEETAGE!

Just finished the Beevolution, heading up for a test fly now. CG came smack on 8 1/2". Cheers Stu, you rock!

Flew great!

Felt just like yours, Stu. I wish I had the chance to fly yours in big winds at Weldon.

Only light conditions, Beevo took out the Fastest speed of the day over a JW and a Reaper

Nice! You beat my top BeEvo speed on the maiden flight.
What AUW did you end up with and can you remember how much balance weight you needed? I've forgotten how much I used.

I cut out one servo bay so far. Probably everyone's already familiar with this technique these days.
I started the cutout 8" from the root as close to the spar as possible.
These old Bee kits have an exposed channel cut into the wing behind the stock spar location. Not sure why but nothing to worry about.
I slice off the top of the block I just cut out and goop it back in place.
I also cut out the battery bays for a 5 cell AA pack.
Only the BeEvo had a cutout big enough for a 4 cell AA.

I used 4.5oz per servo bay. You recommended 4-5oz so I split the difference.

I really want to fly it in some big winds now!

Great to see you building again, Stu =)

My Beevo is done and came out a little lighter than I wanted at 26 oz. I did 5 coats of thinned goop, 3m bi directional tape, 5 mm laminating film covering. I maidened it on one of the biggest wind days in a long time, 35 MPH. I flew okay just a bit slow as it too light for that wind. I think it will fly good in 20 MPH which is our typical windy day here.
Thanks for your help all!

Hey Alex, I thought you built it for someone else, is he ever going to get to fly it?

Looks good Sir DT. Too light for this thread though
What's going on with those winglets? Are they double thick or is that colored tape?

The winglets are stock with florescent orange paint, they show up well. I am going to figure out how to add weight to it now that I am done. Flat lead strips on top, maybe router in a spot for them and just tape over the spot and add lead as needed?

I've flown them like that and it's fine but I would suggest 2 spoon weights outboard of the servos at CG. A little spanloading.

Beevo parts?

Probably not the best place to ask my Beevo question but here goes. I had left over parts after my build that are not in the instructions. Usually not a good sign, but my plane flies fine. I cannot figure out what these parts are for, there are 2 of the orange parts that break apart and the black tube has a one way valve that only lets air pass through from the larger end. Stw and Alex did you get these? By the way I am pretty gullible.
Thanks
Gary

They are whistles. Neither of them work on the plane. I think you can talk to ducks with the black one.
