It's just a touch larger than the Hyperion P-51 - but without retracts. Kinda heavy - 500-800 watts. How big is your park?

Oh, I missed the part about the retracts - sorry. On my Hyperion P-51, the wheels area much too small for any length of grass longer than a putting green. I can't really see the scale of those wheels, or if the legs have been angled forward. It doesn't look awful.

Here is the link to the construction Manual http://www.theworldmodels.com/para/i...n/html/E287XM/.

It is not as scale looking as the Hyperon, but looks like it would be easier to fly and much cheaper. I had the WM corsair and it flew great until a stripped elevator servo under high G's at 150' sent it to the land of broken dreams .

As far as my flying area, one of the soccer pitches is all weather, which means it is made of very fine gravel and I use it to land and take off from easily with my 42" span warbirds with retracts. but it is not a full length field and on one end is a school and one side is fenced. It does have a run off area at either end but in a cross wind I use up a lot of runway heading toward the fence. I think on most days it would land fine but if someone has experienced the landing habits of this bird I would be more comfortable.

After going over the instructions it looks like it would be a nice flying model but not very scale.
The radiator scoop could be refabricated to look better. Easy enough.
The wheels look like they need to be bigger
The wing fairings need to be fabricated.

However, like on the corsair, the thin strip ailerons look like they would provide smooth response and could be drooped ever so slightly as flaperons to aid with slower landings. The elevator split pushrod worked fine on my corsair but was too much for the HS55 servo it was attached to. I would beef the servo up here. Retracts look ok, but the wheel wells may need work to fit larger wheels.

Still very tempting for the $. Also I love TWM instructions as they finish with a Hurricane. Just a pity they don't make one.

Looks like a "Gunfighter"

I have been looking at this plane as well. I really like the looks and size. I ran across the "Gunfighter" P-51 picture and thought I would share.

I gave this plane a very close look when I saw it advertised in one of my magazines. I like my WM electric Zero. My biggest complaint is the placement of the company name and logos all over the airplane.

ronin, are you planning using their recomended power system? if it performs it would be hard to beat for the price. I will be looking forward to your reveiw.

The power combo does indeed seem like a good value. However I am planning on looking at a S-3020 series Scorpion Motor for the power plant. The S3020-14 will survive at twice the input watts and should offer excellent performance when mated with a 4 cell Lipo and a 10x10 prop.

I did ask Airborne Models to send me a motor mount though and the length of the S3020 series Scorpion motors seems to be pretty close to that of the recommended motor. Should be a nice match.

I have the WM Corsair. All of the company names are decals that you can leave off the plane is so desired.

Phoenix,

I am sure this palne would fly great. All of twm models seem to have the flight envelope well sorted. Bur I ended up going with the Align p-51 instead. I fly the align Spit and it flies really nicely. Not as forgiving as TWM models but with the F/G fuse, molded detail and 40" span I am more confident of not having it run on after touch down into something hard.

It was a tough choice, I like the looks of this p-51. I am really hoping to hear it is a winner.

Can't wait for the reports.

And good luck again with your corsair phoenix. You'll love it.

Interesting!

This P-51D Mustang has almost the same wing span and wing area of that of my Great Planes Super Sportster "EP" and my Sportster flys with an ElectriFly Ammo 36-50-1500kV Brushless In-Runner Electric Motor. At one time this motor only cost $35.00 and I was lucky to get it at that price before Tower increased it to almost $70!

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXLWZ5&P=7

Anyway, I swing a APC "SPORT" 9 X 8 propeller with just 3-Cells, 3S2P, 4400mAH (2200mAH Cells) Parallel, 20C, Li-POLYs and the Sportster EP zooms right around 84.8 MPH Level Top Speed.

With a cheaper Inrunner Brushless from United Hobbies (City Hobby) known as the Quannum 36-55-1350 (1350 Kv) the Sportster EP almost reached 90 MPH level flight:

I do not understand why World Models is asking for 4S Power System setup?

My Sportster tips the digital scale just a tad above 3lbs. with the setup I have mentioned.

I would Love to see someone provide the EMPTY weight of this Mustang including Retracts to compare and see if you really need all that weight and power from a 4S Li-POLY power system!

Carlos

EDIT: Great Planes Super Sportster "EP" has 48 inch wing span and 383 sq-in
in comparison the Coming Soon World Models P-51D "EP" has 49 Inch Wing Span and a Whopper of 434 sq-in wing area. You would think that this Mustang would fly just great with a 3S2P Li-POLY power system?
