Build Log
Large Scale JT-5

Hi All

Any one who has been fortunate enough to see Cali's half scale Benson in flight could not fail to be a little impressed. I am more fortunate than most because Cali was kind enough to actually let me have a fly with it!!

So as a bit of a scale model fan, I suppose it was sort of inevitable that I would end up not being able to resist building a big 'un.

So I did a bit of research and came up with a subject....the JT-5

Fortunatly there is a good web site dedicated to this Autogyro with PDFs for just about everything available to download on PDF.

First thing was to measure up the car and find out what was the max size i could build....which came out at 42%

On the last gyronut meeting at Winterton in November, with his kind permissionm, I took many pictures and measurments of Calis' model so I could base mine on parameters that are known to work

So plans were printed and on we went

I will power it with a newly aquired DLE 40cc twin petrol engine.

The model will be strictly "stand off scale"....I have had to make some adustments to thing like mast angle and tail length to get things where I think they should be to get a flyable model.

This is as far as I have got up to now.....just waiting to see if Santa brings me some servos!!

Cheers
Rich

Nice one Rich....Quite a project. Now that plan in the first pic ..was that from a PDF ?? because I can see that fitting in my van ..if it was a lot smaller.

Hi Chris
Yes that was from a pdf that has 1/5 and 1/10 views....I just enlarged that to give me a model length of 150 cm which is the largest I can get in the car

Thanks fellas

Here is a link to the designers website with all the drawings and information....quite an interesting read

Bearing holders, mounting plate for head control and pre rotator hardware and a main shaft are the next things to make....These will support a lovely teeter head kindly donated to the project by Rich Harris.
