Question
Another lipo storage question

My lipos are often at 20-30% of capacity after flying. Is this a safe storage level? They don't sit for more than a month before they are charged to full capacity immediately before flying, so no concern exists that they would discharge down to damaging levels from time.

20-30% state of charge is just perfect for short term storage. Your batteries will thank you in the long term. You can bump them up to 50-60% if you'd like. This will provide the benefit of shorter recharges but will provide no better longevity than 20-30% .

For many years now I've stored mine at whatever percentage they finish the flight at -- usually between about 21% and 25%. I've noticed no significant self-discharge, even when stored like that for several months, and I've just retired my first LiPo (apart from some little 2S ones in my coaxial heli) after seven years of use in a T-Rex 500 heli.

Myself and some friends store our LiPo batteries at 50% DoD and they last longer than other at the club that store them as is at +- 25% after flight. Each to his own.

You all fly the same planes the same way? In other words, is it apples compared to apples, or, apples compared to oranges?

The same question can be asked to you.

I use my batteries hard and they last. Others use it very conservative with low discharge current but they don't do propper storage and they complain about short battery life.

I still have this battery: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1240903
It did hundreds of cycles being pushed very hard but always put to 50% storage and it is still going strong. If you want I can take a picture of the PL8 IR figures tomorrow.
