Yippee!
Record for 50mm.... 164mph... 8s, 29.6v, 66a, 1950w, and 5lbs, bench Video soon

50mm fans are generally classified as Mini EDF. Below that there is the Micro (40mm down, and Nano probably below 30mm). So, what's the Mini top verified speed?

Last Sunday I recorded a flight, in poor conditions. Gary from Effux RC, did a doppler reading and got a fast pass of 182 mph, with 164mph average. So, you Mini fliers, is this a top speed? I think there is more to be had with this fan, but I'mllooking for input as to where this speed stacks up. Let me hear from you. Thanks, Lee

.........................
Newest performance numbers 11/05/2014........8s at full voltage 29.6v, 66amps, 1950watts..............Measured right at 5lbs of thrust! 2320g....... That's right, 5lbs of thrust........ I guess I'll have to rig up a small sled and do a video this weekend, and also measure the efflux speed again at the 5lb mark........ Just crazy. Makes the 10lb 70mm seem almost lame in comparison????

This is tucked away in the Foamy Section so I thought I'd post a link for some who might be intrested.

Details and application details in this thread.

Did a quick thrust test tonight. Just held it over a gram scale. It did 1150g at about 1300w with an intake ring and no thrust tube. That's. 2.5lbs thrust from a 50mm fan. Should power the Extreme Screamer nicely.

Oops, new numbers on a fresh charge .....1400w and 1600g (3.5lbs)

I did a better job of aiming the thrust. Got 1600g each of 3 run ups.

I guess you've got some kind of shield between yourself and the fan whilst bench testing. Just stating so others don't try the same without protection.

Nope, but I forgot to post my normal "Don't try this at home kids" disclaimer, so thanks for taking care of that.

8s Numbers....1800w, 2kg thrust, 290mph efflux

The headline says it all. Except that the motor winding temps look good, cool actually. I'll make some airframe progress this weekend.

Measured the efflux speed with a twin probe "How Fast " unit. Generally accepted as a very accurate instrument.

LOL, yeah I'm having fun with this little powerhouse. It's looing like the jet will have a 1.7 to 1 thrust/ weight ratio. I tested installed thrust tonight and I'll be at roughly 4.25lbs installed, with a 2.5lb AUW.

Here are a few shots of the airframe from the full thread in the foamy section.

Video from yesterday, warning, it's blurry, but has good Doppler passes.
RC - Speedo shows some of the passes are over 200 mph. Anyone want to verify?

There is a whistling noise that it makes . I think it is coming from the pushrod covers. The area behind the control horn is open on the bottom. The whistle wasn't there until I installed the covers. I can add another small fairing on the elevon that might stop the whistle.
