okay, but it still begs the question of "what's the point?". You want to get the battery further forward for two reasons. to help the cg so you don't have to fill the nose full of lead and secondly to make it easier to to fit a receiver and servo in there.

i really don't understand what the benefit of having foam around the battery is. If you hit the fuse that hard, it would be totally junked anyway.........

anyway, just trying to help........ if you can fit it all in great.

Ive got the Speedo and Ptero-X (still got to make them of course)
Sheffield has a good sloping site (they also fly electric on another site but no i.c.) and very friendly membership.

Saw one of these little planes fly Sunday PM (Mike had one). Flies very nice and fast. Anyone know if there is a local (San Deigo) Distrbiutor or if there is a way to reduce the shipping costs (buying two or more at one time).

I contacted the ebay distributor and got a whopping 3 dollars off when I bought 2 of them...

I also seen Mike's fly and flew it a little that's what prompted me to buy 1.

Oran,

Not much of shipping discount. You would'nt be interested in selling one of them to me would you?

Hey Ray,

I am making one for Arnould "Frenchy" from Dave's beach and the other for myself.

I really think there is going to be a dozen or so flying at the beach real soon, great little flyer and a good price.
I am going to fill mine with lead and make it a little rocket ship!

I have a couple of thoughts on the built, like putting the battery in the wing and literally filling the fuse under the wing saddle and nose with lead.
Also the short time I flew Mike's plane I found the plane had a wiggle in the tail. I will also increase the vertical area by an inch or so.

I understand that they make a terrific light wind sloper but I like speed and with the thin airfoil I believe I can really make this little ship RIP!

i was thinking of the usual wire rod, but there isn't much to get it into........

Black or white plastic insulating tape. Not clever, not pretty but very easy, effective and light.

I have a "permanent" hinge made from tape at the front and at the rear I unpeel it to open the canopy for battery fitment/connection/removal. You may need to replace the peelable bit every 10 -15 or so flights but I reckon a roll of tape will last you several years!!

As for the canopy hold down I just epoxy a pick up stick inside the canopy .

mine's ready to maiden now. I've got all the throws sorted (guessed at). The cofg is at about 65mm at the moment. I glued some lead into the nose so it naturally balances at 72mm. I can go futher back by moving the battery slightly. But i have a little weight on top of the battery at the moment to get the 54mm. hopefully that can be removed. but as there is no definative cofg for these yet, i'm being cautious. the makers say 55 and one guy said 75. others have said 65 is a little nose heavy, so we'll see......

will just tape the canopy on for now. for a want of stick things!

I've also got camber changing and spoilerons, but i can't see these working (especially the former) with the outboard ailerons.

i flew the speedo this morning. very nice

mine tugged a bit to the left and i needed a fair bit of trim. Will have to double check my ailerons and wing joint.

Other than that it flew really nice. i removed the little bit of lead after a few flights and it went better. bit hard to set her up though as it was very choppy and i was mostly pointing the nose into the wind. The few rolls i did seem axial, but i was quite high when i did them, so i'll have to bring it in closer in better conditions. Seems like it won't need much, if any differential.

big thumbs up

I'm trying to finish mine up this week. I just need to install the elevator push rod and balance it. What is a good starting point for control throws?

Satinet, where is your CG now after you removed some of the lead?
