What I meant was I didn't remember servo covers being in the kit so I used some from my stock, which I bought off ebay. I used hot melt glue which has shock absorbing properties and which is easily cut away if you need a servo change - two features not applicable to superglue, as you have discovered. I used a 9g servo for the elevator, offset to one side and with the z bend coming up from beneath the servo arm. I fitted a dubro type adjuster at the elevator end - not the right place to keep the weight down but it works well. I had to dremel away just a tiny bit of the lip of the underwing recess to get clearance for the servo.

I started out out with the plane balance close to 60mm using a 300mah 4.8v battery. I've changed to using a 210mah so the CG has moved back but I'm not sure by how much, and I sense it could go back further. I'd suggest you start out at 60-65, bearing in mind the "nose heavy flies badly, tail heavy flies once" rule.

mine came with two servo cover that are perfect for the job. I glued the servo to the good one and screwed it into the wood. 9mm servo for the elevator.

75mm eh? the recommended 55 does seem very far forward..........

me? I fly down in Warwickshire. I'm from Yorkshire though. My sister used to live in Sheffield.

I don't know much about soaring round there, I've only started since i moved "dahn saaath"

My speedo is nearly finished. Just need to make something to hold the canopy down and balance her......

Had everything out the box today to get a good look at what needs doing. On the inside between the wing and canopy the GRP isnt quite finished so will have to do a repair on the inside. I cannot find any instructions, so will rely on posts from here.

Ive tried a 4 x AAA pack and it justs fits but I prefer to put some kind of foam round so will be looking at a flat 4 x AAA pack

Im also thinking of using my Spektrum DX6 but am a bit wary with the 'carbon' canopy, may just use standard 35mhz until I know everything works

Ronnie

btw if I keep buying Chinese planes I'll never get round to building my 2m Raven!

i'm not sure how you're going to fit a flat AAA pack into the fuse. I'd love to see pictures! do you mean a 2+2?

the instructions are worse than useless anyway don't worry. Most people have joined the wings. bin the metal screw and replace it with a plastic bolt and wing nut. CofG seems to be in the range of 65 to 75mm from what i can gather.

The servos need to be installed ONTO the servo covers or they won't fit into the wing. not sure about the carbon canopy and your radio. test it, i guess........

control throws seem to be as far as you can get on the ailerons (not far down) and not that much elevator (depends a bit on your CofG etc of course).

Just found these

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SANYO-6V-1000m...QQcmdZViewItem

With the cells being offset slightly I think they may go in better. Also they are 1000mah so should last longer

I wont buy from them but at least I know what to ask for

don't buy that for sure - it's got three cells on the bottom and two on the top - i.e it's wider than a AAA square pack. I don't see that having 6 volts will be much of an advantage anyway.......

5AAA cells are bigger than 4 AAA cells.......

I was hoping that with them being offset that they would be slightly slimmer in width (a few mm I know), I really wanted something 'snug' but witha bit of gap for some foam. 4.8v or 6v, difficult to decide, maybe the extra ballast will help, maybe not

it's still wider than a 4 cell pack and a 4 cell only just fits in....... i don't see your reasoning, but it's your money.....

Im obviously not explaining it right

Looking at batteries in a diamond formation rather than a square pack (where the 2 side ones touch and the bottom and top ones rest in the hollow formed by the others), this should give a bit more space at the side and still leave room for some foam

We will get there in the end

funnily enough i've got a diamond pack for another plane. I tried it, and like you say you get a bit more room at the side. the only trouble is that you can't push it very far into the nose, as it's a bit too high (it has to sit in the canopy opening).

just waiting on the Passer Thermo its a little bit larger hope the quality is the same as the speedo's Ive seen ,although a bit of carbon tow under the wing saddle is an improvement,

hurrah we got there, thats what canopies are for isnt it, wasted space otherwise

I suppose final decision will be when cog needs to be sorted out
