Cool
Tron Lightship - Maiden Flight Video! Plans Posted

Kids got Tron:Legacy as a gift over Easter and we watched it last night. Man is that a cool movie. Especially when the go and have a Air Combat Session complete with Foamie Style Streamers!!!

So i decided to grab a few screen captures from the movie and designed up a Profile version of the big one.

Next up is the smaller one.

Probably going to turn these into kits like my Enterprise too.

Anyhow 46" or so wingspan. Going to use a Towerpro 2408-21 for the motor with a 7" Prop... to fit between the engine nacelles.

Then of course will be the addition of the streamers for scale flight!

I am probably going to bend the V-Tail instead of make it 2 pieces and of course it will be painted black... but i may or may not put the light tubes on. I do exactly ZERO night flying so it will probably just have the blue foam showing through where the lights are.

The Bad guy ones will need some neon orange paint.

Check it out!

It's a very cool ship! I thought about giving it a try...that v tail in the end looks like it's bad for landing though. Probably grab the grass like an anchor!

It also looks to me like it could be a cool twin.

It will be interesting to see what you come up with! Good Luck!

will it have the gun turret? cause that would just be awesome

in all seriousness it is a cool looking heavy attack craft. Kinda like the Tron version of a WWII Avenger.

pretty good thread on this here: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1419786
it was mentioned that a small carbon rod from the fuselage to the bottom front of the V-tail would keep it from ripping off on landing.

I was actually going to make it as a twin with Blue Wonders on it. But i shied away from it. I have never built a twin .... to completetion anyways. I have 3 of them sitting on the build table waiting for motors...

If i can successfully get one of those flying i might give a go at a mod for it.

The Small fighter will definitely be on the list for the next design.. unless i get hooked on something else of course.

I did put a support off the center fuse to the bottom of the v-tail because i agree it could be a weak point.

The wing is definitely going to have a CF tube in the middle But not full span.

I checked out all those other threads and it doesn't seem than anyone has moved past the design phase yet. Maybe i will get the jump on these guys.

sgt. are you going to be putting in the articulated wing as well ? remember at the start of the flight to the portal, the wings are folded up

Definitely no folding wings. Compromises the integrity of the wing spar.

I try to avoid making true scale planes. They usually don't fly. I learned this on my first space plane, the Reliant. Spent a ton of time making it look scale only to discover that scale doesn't fly right.

This thing would actually look really cool in the air. What would really set it off would be LEDs and it flying at night! I tried the light tubes before and they just don't seem bright enough.

If plans become available this might push my building season well into the spring....

Sorry Planelover. I have been very busy with RL stuff this spring so not a ton of time to build. I did get a couple of my half built designs finished and move this up the que a few slots though.

Unfortunately i went and designed a Cylon Raider last night and i might have to slip it in ahead of the Lightship... but it is definitely on the list still!
