Is it just me?

Is it just me or is going under a hundred pretty boring to you?
I just don't understand why people are satisfied flying and EDF Jet like a Park Zone T-28 compared to a Q-500. A jet is a jet and supposed to fly and be flown like a jet. While I'm at it, toys make noise like Pavarotti and go slow.

It's all part of a rich picture. My mini F16 goes about 120 and it's so small that I have to keep turning to keep it visible. Pure adrenaline with that little sucker but not the only fix I get. My F18 probably tops out at 100-110 and cruises at around 60 but I love flying it, it's really nice solid jet and wouldn't want to swap it out for being too slow.

Try flying a 50mm edf at 85. It's under 100 but I guaran-freakin'-tee you you're knees will knock. Point is, speed is relative.

i agree, speed is relative, and flying a 36in. jet at 100 mph is not scale, its supersonic.

i prefer to fly my jets scale, so they look like a jet flying, not like a bottle rocket.

Agree 100% with that.
I have a collection of the 50mm jets. I fly them with the stock motor and fan with 20c 850 batteries. I get as long of flights as those flying with 4 cell packs, only at scale speeds. I can easily get 5+ minutes with the stock configuration and small lipo packs.

This is where I don't think speed scales, or maybe it does, IDK. I see supersonic fighters aircraft flying almost daily, in and out of supersonic flight. While I haven't broke the 100mph barrier yet with my edfs (I will in the next week), I have had them in dives approaching that speed and there is nothing unusual about the way they look compared to full scale, I can't imagine 120 would look unusual either.......until it turns and pulls 12 Gs or gets buffeted.

And yes, flying a edf at 80mph is pretty boring, although it does look very scale when flying nap of the earth. More power. More power.

To each his own but, Speed is not relative to me. My 50mm 4s AMX was fun but on 3s WEMO it was lacking. Under 100 is kinda boring. You can still fly scale and have some nice flybys but, still have the ballistic performance. 100 is a good speed and having good thrust to go with it is better. Sorry but, a 70mph 50mm is slow at best. I fly my WWII warbirds at those speeds because they look good going those speeds. A jet is a jet and should perform like one. I don't care if it looks scale or not. there is nothing like coming across the deck at 70ish for the crowd shots and going WOT with unlimited vertical, doing a Split S and screaming back at 120+ with my Viperjet!!

Its funny you asked, becouse I was just thinking the same thing.

I was able to fly today durning lunch, and My little GP L-39 is doing a 100 and its fun, but I got a T-45 foamy from Hobbyking, and it dosen't seem to mater how much power I throw at it its still slow! But it is 2x as big as the L-39

I was going to ask, what is your cheapest/fastest Jet?

I need to find something to fill this speed fix that wont brake the bank.

So what is your fun fast beater? Cost?

I don't buy the whole scale speed thing either.
Take a 1/4 scale P-51 flying at a "scale" 320 mph, which is plenty of speed for a real Mustang to do some nice aerobatics, while the model is falling out of the sky at 80 mph and can't even manage a decent 4 point roll. Big models look slow too, so that makes it even worse.

I've flown an 8 foot span 48 pound plane 190 mph and I've flown a speed 400 plane 190 mph. The little one seems twice as fast!

but then again, i have noticed speed seems to coincide with age.

when i was younger and flying, we tried to go faster, now it seems flying scale speed is what most older guys ( im 63) like.

younger guys like to speed things up, and thats understandable, i remember those days.

so, like i said before, to each his own, now, where did i put my teeth and glasses? it is after all, catholic bingo night.

Yup! It's ready but the weather isn't! I'll post pics in the speed Squall thread.

Should be up in the 1700 to 1800 watt range using a 1112-2d/wemo/cc125 on 3700 35c outrage packs. 2.1" exhaust should make it go!
