Cruiser ...RCM&E free pull out plan, in shops now

Cruiser was designed several years ago and will be going into RCM&E magazine around the end of 2015.
Without a shadow of a doubt this is my favourite tractor autogyro I have designed to date and I enjoyed building it too, I think it is because it is so different.
The idea from the start was to make it slippy and streamline making the centre of drag as weak as possible. With a fuselage back end that would be almost impossible to strike and fins out of the way but in the prop wash (this was adapted for the Atom).
I started with a smaller version which was quick and easy to build ending up quite a light weight. Here are couple of videos of the '600' sized Cruiser doing it's stuff, goes well.
Le Cruiser (3 min 21 sec)

RC Autogyro 'Le Cruiser' 600 (2 min 31 sec)

Below are a few photos of the larger version, I have made up a simple alloy load share head this week, on this is mounted a gearbox.
As you can probably guess this has turned out light like its smaller brother, the plan is to keep it under 4lb. Blade diameter will be around 75" (2 blade) and slightly smaller for 3. For those that can remember the 2 blades being used are the aerobalsa blades I altered in the anti flutter experiment under taken a few years ago on my Tempest.

A few photos of where I am at, looking forward to this one.

It looks like the Cruiser will be going into RCM&E magazine as a free pull out plan. As I hadn't got that many build shots I decided to make another (I didnt need much persuading). There are a few modifications that have been made but it is basically the same machine.
If you have built an Atom you will be happy to know it uses the same running gear. I think it is more stable than the Atom and is quite a light flying autogyro, the rudder is small and very soft. I have since tweeked the plan making it a little bigger in area but builders will go their own way I'm sure. With a slightly longer moment arm than the Atom and a small horizontal tail it is more resistant to nosing down in the turns.
This version was completed a day before Winterton, I stopped off on the way up to get the flying shots which are in the bag. It has had several flights to date some of which Steve Jones kindly took to the controls so we could get some more photos.
I will let you know when the due date is for publication, it looks like it may be in a couple of issues time.

I will start a new build thread closer to the time over on modelflying.co.uk where I will hopefully be able to answer any questions that get fired my way. Best start putting some words down

Yep well said...

Rich was kind enough to let me have the transmitter at Winterton and I can definitely say its a peach to fly.

Smooth and more stable in the turns than the Atom, not that the Atom is bad ... this is even better !!!

A real builders model that just has to be covered with see through covering

Thanks guys, the write up is almost complete and I hope to get it all done and dusted for the Nationals.

I will try and get some video of this one flying in due course but at the moment time is limited for the toys, you know how it is!
