Power suggestions for an aquila grande and a saggitta xlc

Gentlemen, good day to all. I know nothing about electric motors, batteries bec's, lcd's ac/dc and the list goes on. I would like to power these two planes but don't know where to start. Niether plane has been built yet and both are being built from plans. Lots of room to wiggle. All comments and advice will be appreciated. Oh by the way , i would like these planes to get to altitude smartly.

The basic "rule of thumb" is100Watts/lb will fly well, 150Watts/lb will give "Sparkling performance, 200Watts/lb +, you are on your own!!!

If you look at my blog you will see an article on selecting power systems for models. I may be of help to you.

Thanks for the rules, but i don't know what that equates to for motor size, battery required and all else related to electrics. Inrunner or out runner. I grew up on nitro and until now was not interested in electrics. These birds come in at about 10 pounds rtf. So i guess 1500 watts is what i will need.

I'm assuming that you just need a combo that will haul the planes to thermalling altitude in a reasonable time, and you won't need to go zooming around with loops, etc. with long motor run times.

If that's the case then something like a Turnigy 4250-750 kv , outrunner or equivalent with a 15-16 inch folding prop (Aeronaut is a good one) will do the job using a 3S batt. (4S if you need more oomph) and since you have plenty of room in those fuselages, a fairly big one , 3000 -4000 mill., will give you plenty of run time for repeated climb outs or just cruising around at part throttle.

Less than 500 watts will give that type of performance if you don't need rocket ship climbs, and they would cruise adequately on 300 W.

Over powering is okay but you don't really need it and those big wings were never designed for high speeds and abrupt maneuvers.
