That's how mine looks too but the LEDs don't light up and it doesn't initialize when I flash it with ZYX 3.5.

When you try to flash it, give it loads of time to complete - mine took ages.

Mine took about 45 secs then it wasn't compatible with the cx software anymore. Haven't flown it yet but all controls and gyro compensation seem to work perfectly.

Is it ok to upgrade the CX gyro to zyx 3.5 firmware? I heard it doesn't work well.

Here's mine. Got it from Ehirobo 17-Oct-12 (oops, I thought it was 2011..)

Leads are about 150mm.

I guess this is the new one. Can someone post their "old", flashable one?

Then everyone that has succeeded/failed to flash theirs can say which one they have, so we can identify the pattern and whether it's consistent.

Bevel's and leads

Both of my CX's are early versions.

At the moment, I have one cross-flashed with Tarot V3.5 firmware. That one has a 1.5mm wide silver bevel around the top edge of the case, and 120mm leads (end of case to end of connector) Either side of the bevel, there is a darker blue band.

The other one has a narrower bevel - it looks to be about 1mm (again measured in the plane of the bevel) Otherwise, it's identical to the other one. I've yet to try cross-flashing it, having been using it as a reference against the cross-flashed one, but I may try the cross-flash.

AFAIK, there's no way to tell if the CX will cross flash to ZYX just by looking at it. Try it and see if it works. If not, flash it back to the CX v1 firmware.

You're probably right. Closer inspection of my two CX's reveals an inconsistent bevel width rather than a clear difference between the two units.

I do firmly believe that most, if not all the trouble people reported with the CX when it came out - like mysterious reversals of collective and so on, were caused by the hidden "conditions" feature which was always present. Using John_NZ FBL V1.22, there's a very useful "compare conditions" screen (Tools>Compare Conditions) which highlights any settings which differ between the two conditions in yellow. Loading my old, pre-conditions setting .ini files, it's clear that the CX (and presumably the ZYX) had the F3C settings loaded in the then hidden condition 2. Anyone using a negative value of collective range could then see a collective reversal if the unit booted up into condition 2.

In the attached .png image, for example, I used a value of -76 for collective range, (13mm servo arms and RJX head) along with modified parameters from the "3D Extreme" model. The default value in condition 2 was +70.

So my recommendation would be to use the equally useful "Copy Condition" function in the V1.22 software to copy your condition 1 values into condition 2, even if you are not using the conditions switching feature.

This is the wrong thread for this kind of (heli-specific, hardware) questions...

so it's the blue bevel that's the distinguishing mark.

and that reminds me - I must try using a capacitor hooked up to my RX!
