Poor Contest Performance Excuses

I haven't ended up dead last in a contest in years... until yesterday...

My excuses... In truth, I had a Vaseline day... i.e. needing a dab of the greasy stuff behind each ear so I could pull my head outa my @$$...

My excuses... Mother Nature lied to me... with that puff of breeze, the thermal SHOULD BE right there!

OK. let's hear yours...

Jack

Jack, to quote Chief Dan George from the movie, LITTLE BIG MAN:
"SOMETIMES THE MAGIC WORKS, SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T!"

A " false thermal," at best, is a disappointment.

I call that the MAXWELL SMART EFFECT- "I missed the thermal by JUST THAT MUCH" (two fingers held aloft with a miniscule distance between them)!!!

Got suckered into sink by that buzzard.

Launched right into bad air - those other guys launched right into lift.

Winch battery is weak.

Winch is too strong.

The retriever line drag kept me from getting a good launch.

Hey - this winch isn't as good as those other ones.

Five line breaks -- not my fault -- the crickets are chewing on the line.

Hey that Cu was supposed to have lift under it.

I don't like to fly downwind.

Ad Nauseam

I won't even bother with the bad landing score excuses.

Joe Wurts was timing for me one time at Armidale, I launch, and he says "go that way", so I go that way, and fly straight, going, going going ....

"Ok Joe, I have to land now..."

"I thought it was over there!"

Meanwhile, everyone else was flying directly towards a fast building thunderhead. So, I landed, relaunched with 8 minutes or so left on the clock, flew towards that building cloud, and maxed 8 minutes

Mind you, when Joe picks 'em correctly for me, I'm way up there, and everyone else is on the deck...

I had not put the Airtronics sticker back on the hatch of the Victor after changing the color from black to metal flake blue, it flies fine now

We all hate it when that happens, Sean (FrogChief). I have a special name for those inverted thermals but proper etiquette precludes me from sharing that here. Gary

Actually, I can't ever recall needing an excuse for poor performance. It seems to come to me naturally. It's a gift, really; just not a very pretty one.

How can you guys complain, when you use that big long winch line and get about a gazillion feet of altitude.

Try throwing your gliders, where the big guys play.

My excuse? I'm just not big enough

A gift? Yes, a gift I seem to share with many people.

But I always have a great time, even if I score poorly.
