Scale Build-Off 3 - 91" span Boeing 314 Clipper

Here's a quick run down of the specs for the 314:

Scale: 1/20
Length: 63.6"
Span: 91.2"
Height: 16.5"
Wing Area: 1032 sq.in.
Controls: R/E/A/T

Target AUW: 8lbs or less

Power system:
4x Turnigy Park450 1050kV
4x 25A ESC
2x 3S3000 mAh LiPo

I have designed this the same way I designed my 96" Grumman Albatross - all laser cut balsa, interlocking and self aligning (I hate building over plans).

I'm in the process of laying out parts into the cut sheets, so I hope to be able to start cutting parts this weekend. The wings, horizontal stab, vertical stabs and hydro stabilizers (sponsons) are removable for storage and transport.

Thanks everyone! I have all of my 1/16", 3/32" and 1/8" balsa sheets laid out and I started cutting tonight. So far all of the 1/16" balsa parts are cut and I'm starting on the 3/32" parts now.

Right now I have 13 sheets of 1/16" x 4 x 24, 21 sheets of 3/32" x 4 x 24, 8 sheets of 1/8" x 4 x 24. I still need to get the 1/8" lite ply and 1/4" balsa parts laid out.

Now, I know you're not going to fly that off the "lake" at NEAT!

That remains to be seen. It depends on how well it flies down at Joe Nall. I plan to fly the mess out of it down at Nall, so I'll have a good feel if I think I could fly off the pond at NEAT.

I took these couple of pics last night...somewhere is all of that is a Boeing 314...I swear!
I haven't mentioned it yet, but there are 450 laser cut parts (not including the laser cut planking)!

A great-looking aircraft and an inspiring project. We Brits had some, flown by BOAC on the Atlantic run from 1942 - 48. Hmmm....
