I have not used anything other than Phoenix for the last 4 years
If I was going to tell someone which of the free sims to use to get started in this hobby what should I tell them?

rcdeskpilot works for me pretty easy with window 7.
vrc i can only use on xp... so i gave that up pretty much.
i was using a hobby king t6a and the dongle didnt work with w7 but then i just got a turnigy 9xr and the appropriate dongle for it, and it installs and works pretty much plug and play with w7, the t6a not so much...
they are about the same literally. both you can find a number of free models to fly. a little confusing at first but pretty simple to load them up once you figure it out.

For planes I recommend Multiplex Multiflight . In my opinion it's the best free RCSim for beginners. Works good on Windows from WinXP to Win8.1.
And It's free
I use this dongle http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...ompatible.html with T9X with no issue.
