Fly-Fly F-4 Phantom: BUILD

Went to EJF and picked up my F-4 after some delay from Customs. Well here are the pictures out of the box. First thing first the wing is REMOVABLE, I repeat the wing is removable, so now that we cleared that up, you have access to the Fan and many other items. I must say the Interlocking fuse parts fit nice typical of Fly fly.

you would mount them farther forward. youd have to hog out a ton of foam, and make your own ducts. but thats no biggie. done it before. ifi can fit 2 66mm fans in a edo F-15...i could fit 2 70's in that beast! looks like a nice model regardless. congrats flyfly...a half way scale jet. the mig29 is their second best IMO. on with the build!

1.5 hours later

So after and Hour and a half, this is where I am at. Got most or at least half of the wood parts in, Motor is mounted but as of yet no radio pieces. This plane was meant for Three servos and 4 Channels.

1 and 2 Flapperons (yeah small correction, Ailevons)
3. throttle
4. Steering

So now of course Flaps and Ailerons are easy and so is the rudder. But that will have to wait.

now the part that Sucks. I Fly to San Francisco very Early Friday morning and work there all day. Saturday I go to Yosemite, Sunday in Merced with my parents and come back from Sacramento Monday night after working there all day. Since I work tomorrow there might not be any updates until Tuesday Night.

With the ailerons being so far inboard on the phantom, I would think it might be a good candidate for flaperons which would save a small bit of weight and hassle.

Hope to get mine tomorrow with any luck.I still cant make my mind up, two 70's or one 90. In some ways i think the two 70's would work better/more efficient given the design. Looks like a good one for retracts as well with big beefy areas to work with. About time I did a fly fly with wheels.

Batt's

Well since I am going to start with 6S pack here are some pictures of the fit.

Retracts will fit in the original build or can be added on later since you have access to the wing and internal parts of the fuse.
