Looks great and flies quite nicely. Pitch problems seem to have been solved as well.

Second Air Vehicle Added for Texas Legends Games

A couple weeks back we were asked to add a 17 foot Choctaw Casino airship to our schedule for the Texas Legends basketball team. This was an old bird that flew for several seasons at another venue. The envelope itself was about 8 years old or so and still had brushed motors all around and was flown with nickel metal batteries. The configuration of the gondola had to be brought up par and took about four hours to redo including a new wiring harness. To pivot the cups it utilized friction between two tires and never wanted to re-center itself when the control stick was released . I fly the ships like a fixed wing aircraft on mode 2 as this is normal for our pilots. Pitch and yaw (tail rotor) are on the right stick with throttle and coupon release on the left stick. It works and all the commerical ships are set up that way as we switch out crews to different venues constantly. Anyway, ship flies extremely well even on only two two cell lite polly packs (4500 mah). Flight times are over an hour actual if needed with a 50 percent reserve. Ship is built by Aerostar and is honestly tough as nails. Good bird. Photo attached. Scheduled for at least 28 more games this season.

New Choctaw Casino Airship for Dallas Stars Hockey

Its about time the season finally got started. I finally got to set up and test fly a new 18 foot airship for the Dallas Stars (NHL) at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. Ship was another turn key set up from Mobile Airships with additional modifications added to allow it to be docked 125 foot overhead in the rafters at the arena. Saves time and much helium. Overall an excellent flying ship. ESC for tail does not give 100 percent directional control both ways. This is normal on the Castle Creation car ESCs and they are looking at the problem themselves at this time. Once that is reprogrammed the ship will be very nice. Its not bad now but you have to plan a little further ahead on directional control. Carries about an hour and half of power on board with 3 3/5000 mah batteries. Eflite 10s on all three motors. Castle Creations ESCs utilized throughout. Spektrum 6I with a receiver in the gondola and another in the tail do all the work. We have about 25 games prescheduled for the season this year as it is only three month late getting started due to the lockout. I looks like it may run into June this year. ed

I've been flying an 8ft blimp with a single 50mm fan in the gondola and a 50mm fan in the tail.

Both are reversible but not very efficient in reverse. The gondola fan has up and down rotation.

We have zero payload capacity and we have been overfilling with helium for 2 seasons so now it's leaking pretty badly.

I want to upgrade the electronics and drive system. I'm trying to talk them into going to a 12' envelope to offer greater payload capacity but I don't know if I will be successful.

Does anyone have any suggestions for upgrading the electronics, keeping it as light as possible and being able to transfer it to a 12' blimp?

I don't have much of a budget so I need to do it myself.

Thanks
Craig

It is about time to wake this thread back up. Cowboy airship out last evening for a Blue and Gold scrimmage with a scheduled preseason game tomorrow night. Did a few modifications to vehicle this summer but its pretty much the same. Albertsons continues as the sponser this year as well as the 2014/2015 season. Hopefully we will pick up a number of additional events during the winter.

Also note there is a new ship coming for the Dallas Stars and Dallas Mavericks this season. Its a shape of a Slurpee Cup from 7/11 Convience Stores. I honestly try to get them to go with a conventional shaped vehicle but in most cases it does not happen. Anybody for herding cats? That is about how shapes fly. Point (herd) them in one direction and pray. Oh well, that's what they pay us for. It is shaping up to be a busy year. ed

Marcus

I work the little events as well especially at the start of the school year. I've worked for a credit union now for the last eight or so years and do a number of advertising gigs for them at the convocations prior to the start of each school year. They are fun and fairly easy to fly with a small 13 footer I've been using for years. I also have a small 7.5 foot rig as well as another 11 footer we use sometimes for mall shows and other small venues. Nothing fancy but always available. Helium much easier get this year as well. Price is less and I have a regular supplier that I use. We are starting to get busy now and will be working four to five events a week through the April/May time frame. As many as three crews will be working some nights in the Dallas/Ft Worth Area. I also have two crew working in the greater Austin area as well. I retired to do this work and I'm working more now than when I was gainfully employed for Lockheed/Martin. ed

Ed, are you broadcasting HD from the blimp? If so how about some details on the equipment you're using?
