New Thunderpower LIPO manufacturing date question

Hi all,

Just got a brand new Thunderpower 3s 11.1v 2100mah lipo today.

its dated may 6 2005, so its already 3 months old!

I know lipos have a low self discharge rate, but isnt there a general consensus that you need to 'use them or lose them' i.e. they deteriorate when stored for periods unused?

Is getting a TP lipo brand new that is 3 months old already normal? will it have any damge, should I return it for a younger model?

any advice is appreciated, as these packs are EXPENSIVE! thanks!

It's just now 8/2005. If the battery is marked 6/2005, it's at most 2 months old. I wouldn't worry about that.

I guess I should feel lucky. I just picked up the exact same battery today with a date of 6-28-05. Mine must be a newborn?! I am also interested in how old is too old.

TP may be the only RC manufaturer with date code printed on the label
2 to 6 months is consider fresh and pretty new.
The battery is OK for 18 montha before first use (may lost 2% of rated capacity after 12 month of none use)

thanks for the info charlie.

I think having the date printed on the pack is a very god idea by TP, because you can tell when you receive the battery if it has been stored for a long period of time before sale- I have wondered how old my other 'new' lipos by different manufacturers were when I purchased them.

i wouldnt want an 18 month old battery though! think I would be asking for a refund if I got one
