Question
Best 2.4 Rx for JR Tx for DLG?

Hi All,
I'm considering to convert all my 72mhz stuff over to 2.4 and wondering what the consensus is on which 2.4 Rx that speaks JR is the best to use with F3K ships.

AR600c, RG631B???
is this it?

thanks,
craig

I no longer fly JR/Spektrum, but I think the RG631B looks like a really nice RX. It's full range and pretty small, my only issue with it is it's limited voltage range of 4.5-8.4v. It would be nice if it was 3.5v on the low side so it could be powered with a 1s lipo, I would even kind of be nervous running a 4 cell NiMH pack. I would probably have to use a 2s w/reg. Just my opinion though as I have not used this rx.

Now that I think about it I might look into the spektrum ar6255 it's a full range carbon rx with a voltage range of 3.5-9.6v and I believe it costs less aswell

I been running the 6255's with my x9303 since they came out, no problems with them.

The 1s lipo concept sounds interesting, but wonder what it does to servo performance.

I would consider a 2S LiFe..... Fast recharge and known good performance.

I'm doing a series of tests on servos at various voltages. Still refining my measurements but as an example torque for a JR SM22:

@5.5V 16.5 oz in
@5.0V 15.0 oz in
@4.0V 12.0 oz in

Unsurprisingly the torque is proportional to the voltage. Haven't measured the speed but there are enough people using 1S in DLGs to assume that it is not a problem.

I am using the RG631B rx currently, and have been using them for over a year now. Of interest is that I am also using 1S lipo unregulated. Not sure what the source is of the voltage range listed above, but from an operational point I think that the rx works down to about 3.0V if not slightly below 3V. I found on one plane that one of the servos stops prior to the rx stopping.

One little caution regarding the battery telemetry. I set my rx low battery alarm to go off at 3.7V. If I remember correctly, the rx telemetry doesn't show when the rx battery drops below 3.6V, but instead stays at 3.6V until the battery gets below 3V. I may be incorrect on this, I think I ran across it on my very first day flying and ever since then have set my 1s lipo voltage alarm to 3.7V. It may be appropriate to redo this 3V scenario under controlled circumstances to see if my memory is accurate.

Thats cool you are running 1s with your RG631B, good info to know. I got my voltage specs straight from JR's website.

I'm using the XG8 with both the RG631B and RG831B on 1s lipo as well. I was hesitant to try 1s on it after reading the specs, but Joe's positive experience with it gave me some confidence to try and it's been working flawlessly.

Just to be clear. You mentioned the AR class Rx and the RG class Rx. These are two different 2.4 systems. There are jr radios that will function with either one but NOT both. The AR class is a dsm2/dsmX Rx and will talk to a 9303/9530 12x 11x. The RG class is a DMSS and will only communicate with the brand new XG series of radio.

I have always run AR 6255s with my dsm2 9303 and have never had an issue. I just picked up an XG 8 and the RG631B I like the radio so far but am slightly diss spooned I the slightly porky RG631B as it is a half inch longer than the 6255 and weight in at 9 grams.

2.4 is great. Good luck on the decision.

After looking at the XG8 last night, I realized that it's not backward compatible with dsm2/x, so it seems less flexible and a more expensive alternative to a system which already seems to work well enough (dsmx) .. I've been using a 9303 for several years with great reliability, so I think I would like to stay with the 9 series and possibly get the 9503, transfer all my programs, and use dsmx rx like 6255 as everyone seems to recommend here.

The 9303 you have is the same as the 9503 without the backlight and a few less model memory. If you are. Omcerned with dsmX you can have your 9303 upgraded to dsmX. The advantage to DMSS is it is a true frequency hopping system with a much larger bandwidth. The xg8 also offers some very convinient and high end programming features not supported on the 9303.

Happy flying.
