USA F5b/D team selection this year for 2014 WC

This thread is for information regarding the US team selection for both F5B (gliders) and F5D (pylon racers).

The 2014 WC will be in Austria and should be one of the nicest venues in recent years.

Just about anyone who is a AMA member is eligible to enter and compete for one of 3 spots on each of the teams. The first step is to contact Colleen Pierce at AMA(Colleen Pierce <cpierce@modelaircraft.org>) to let her know you are interested in the program. She will then make sure you get notices regarding dates and deadlines and other program info. There is a modest fee that you need to pay to formally enter the program($10 or 15 if I recall).

AMA also encourages younger members to also get into FAI events with a separate category for "Juniors". The highest placing junior is eligible to go to the WC. Again contact Colleen for information.

It depends on the offers that are made to host the selection contests. Bids can be made by groups or clubs and sent to AMA. The team selection contests are not tied together and offers can be made for them separately. Colleen at AMA can assist with information on the team selection process.

I am hoping F5D will be taken on in San Diego again, there is alot of experiance there and a good place to fly. It seems as if there is quite a bit of interest in this cycle with a good place to compete in 2014.

We are working at making the US team strong in F5D this cycle if all works well on a new airplane but it is pretty radical and has a chance at not being all we want, no risk no reward...

F5D Ready to Race

F5D Boys,
I have a complete F5D setup for sale. Ready to race. It is one of the birds I used in the 2010 WC at Muncie. It is a D-2005 ship with Neu 1115 - 2100 Kv motor, Castle 80A controller, Neu watt-limiter. It has servos installed, Spektrum AR6255 receiver, switch and battery installed. All the goodies less the main battery packs. It has never been damaged, never crashed. PM me if anyone is interested. pylon.guy@shaw.ca

I also have a bunch of spares: Neu Limiters, NIB Neu motor, ESC, Graupner Props, main batteries, etc. The Canadian F5D team has pretty much gone back to Slimer racing.

Note: I'm going to be in Van Nuys, California from Feb 20 to the 24th for a big Q40 race there. If anyone is interested, I can bring all the goodies down with me to the race and save all the shipping costs.

Photo attached of one of my D2005 models at the 2010 WC. The one I have for sale is pretty much identical.
FYI, the Canadian team placed second in the WC so the model was very competitive.

Please be sure to contact AMA and get you name on the list for people interested in the event. Doing so will ensure you are kept in the loop about developments in the selection program.

Steve, I've seen the F5D and F5B limiters on your site. Will you please explain the purpose of the limiter for F5D and what it does/how it works? Never heard of one before.

Thanks.

Tim
