Aeromodeller free flight plans

Hi,
This time it is the August 1985 issue of AEROMODELLER with the cover showing the latest full size glider technology the Schempp-Hirth “DISCUS” taking to the air.

Two great full size free flight plans were in this issue the first being a half size version of a classic Vintage glider.

It’s MINI THERMALIST by BILL DENNIS. You can see why Bill choose this 1948 giant glider design by R.MINNEY to work on. It really has lovely looking lines.

Bill said construction is very simple and it can be completed in a week of evenings with no special parts needed.

Finally we head indoors and a peanut scale RUMPLER TAUBE by BRIAN FAULKNER.

Brian developed this model with a light airframe to give long flights. Should look a treat circling just beneath the ceiling.

Cheers

Aeromodeller free flight plans

Hi,
To the June 1990 issue of AEROMODELLER where the cover features Terry Dilks competing in Wakefield at the 1989 Free Flight nationals at RAF Barkston Heath UK.

This edition had the usual array of great articles and reports but only one free flight plan.

But it’s a full size competition tow line glider plan by ROD LEWIS and DAVE ACKERY.

FFOX4 of 471/8 inch wingspan features an Autoruddder and looks capable of a very good performance.

Unusually for Aeromodeller there is no construction and trimming article but those with at least one such model under their belt will have no problems with the construction.

Cheers

Here is the unusual Arsenal Delanne 10 from Model Aircraft Oct. 1965
There's bound to be a rush to build this one! or maybe not

Aeromodeller free flight plans

Hi,
The search for free flight plans this time leads to the November 1986 AEROMODELLER.

The cover shows sees JOHN PERRY and RON PRENTICE enjoying a sunny Saturday at the Old Warden Vintage Weekend with their Senior Monitor and Stuntwagon.

Two full size plans to be found with the first from regular contributor JOHN WATTERS.

John this time has produced a very nice CO2 miniature of a vintage design the CADET.

The original was of 87 1/2 inch wingspan and powered by 1/5th hp Brown Junior engine while the CO2 version comes in at 26 inch wingspan and gives as equally a good performance.

Next we go backwards with BACK TO FROUNT by K.J. WALLACE. It’s a rubber powered negative-sweep pusher Canard.

It also conforms to P.30 class rules and I think with the opposition trying to work that one out you will have won before they know it.

Nothing really involved in the construction but the designer notes that no D/T is shown fitted and as his prototype was last seen at 1,500 feet over St Ives he strongly advises adding one and suggests a pop-up panel of some sort.

Cheers

Model Aircraft March 1962

Fokker EIV 45" span scale FF

Bristol Monoplane 1917 yet another of Malstroms midget gliders

Polecat and Polestar not strictly FF but not C/L either, these are a couple of rubber power indoor RTP team racers I have included and article on indoor team racing with rules. Looks like a good club project over the winter.

Model Aircraft published a plane of the month feature, very oten without even a 3v. This issue had however a good article and 3 view on the Polish L.W.S.-3 Mewa

Sounds and looks cool!
I wonder if they'd work for "rubber speed", or whatever it was called: free flight racing from point to point.

Aeromodeller free flight plans

Hi,
Looking this time at the December 1986 AEROMOEDELLER with the cover showing a Blackburn Monoplane and Sopwith Pup from the Shuttleworth collection in suitably seasonal conditions.

Two full size free plans were amongst the many offerings in this issue.

The first is another quirky design from the fertile imagination of RAY MALSTROM.

It’s METRO-AIR a lifting fuselage sport model sort of a stick model with a body hung on it.

It’s a lot of fun and said to fly very well.

Next was a VIC SMEED design. After all this time rather rare to discover one that appears not to have been posted here so far .

DOLLY BIRD is a lively all-sheet biplane that can be flown either free flight or radio control and it has that unmistaken Vic Smeed” “look” to it.

A 5cc to .8cc diesel or .020 glow engine will have it happily puttering around over head .

The very detailed build and trimming article has all the information you need.

Cheers
