Seeking lightweight motor for FPV TekSumo.

Gday I've been flying for a few years but cant keep up with the ever growing plethora of motors available.

I need to replace a Park 450 1200kv on my FPV TekSumo and am hoping someone can guide me towards a worthy replacement. I'm happy to spend a few extra bucks to get something a little lighter (Park comes in at 66g) and something with a bit more life in it. This one hasnt really run that much to be honest and already theres a bit of play in bearings. I can stick it on something that I dont care too much for but on the Tek its a little heavier than I want and givin me jello in my vidz. Trying to stay around the 1200kv area and prob not any lower.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

- Scott

I know you capped it at 1200kv, but I've been using an RCtimer 2200kv motor with an APC 6x4 prop with awesome results. I've run this motor on everything from a 1200g FPV sky surfer to an 900g popwing to an 1100g stryker and loved it on every plane. It's a smaller motor at 50g and only $11. It's currently on my 900g Popwing and I can full power climb at 13-14amps. I'm in the clouds in minutes. In a flat run it'll go about 60mph. I get about 20-25 minute flight times with aggressive flying on a 3300mah 3s. I can stretch that way out if I'm conservative. Anyway, I LOVE this motor. And it's a perfect fit for the popwing/teksumo/swift planes. New bearings are available for $1 from RCtimer and it's always best to have a set on hand just in case. I haven't needed them on this motor yet, but other RCtimer motors for my quads have.

edit: You can see the motor in action if you look in my blog. The tower, wild side, stryker, and slinger videos are all using this motor.

Even though it's a TekSumo it is my primary fpv craft and I look for endurance where I can. I'm only carrying a 3s 2200 so low kv large prop is where I dwell.

Well, for the record, the motor i suggested cruises at under 8amps. That was on a fairly loaded Stryker wing of over 1000g. At a 30deg ascent, at full throttle, it's still only pushing 13-14amps. I can't say what my amp draw with this motor is on my current Popwing because that plane doesn't have a current sensing OSD on board. But it's a couple hundred grams lighter than my Stryker was.

When I say I'm getting about 20 minutes on a 3300mah 3s, that's landing with 20-30% left in the pack (I hate running packs empty). And that's me climbing to 4000ft. zipping around in the clouds, nose diving back to the deck, zipping around, then landing. Not "taking it easy" by any means.

I guess the point is, just cause it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, doesn't always mean it's a duck. That's why I love this motor. I'd be curious to see how other motors stack up against this though. So I'll subscribe.

You put up a good argument mate. I'm only getting around 10-15 with an 8x4 on my Tek. But it is carrying an Arduflyer and 5.8 FPV gear inc OSD so it has to move a bit to stay up there. But very interesting indeed. I've gone with a Aerodrove SK3 1250 and I'll let you know how it goes hey, but I will keep your motor in mind for the future.
