Ah crap. You're right I switched the appropriate Kv ranges in my head while I was writing my first post. Doh! Yeah it doesn't work out quite like I wanted to since my argument depended on the opposite being true.

The 2730-1500Kv is a little smaller, so you might think it would be less powerful. However according to Drive Calc the SK3-2822-1275 is less efficient and wastes more power, so it may not be any better. What the SK2822 does gain is static thrust, because its lower Kv enables it to swing a larger prop without drawing more power.
Yes those are the motors. FlyBrushless tested both.
2730-1500

2822-1275

Thanks everyone for all the breakdown of information. I need to keep reading it another 40 times before i really get it. But thanks for the time and effort it takes to write all of that.

The goal of this plane is to be extra super light. Motor weight becomes significant. With mount and prop adapter the 2730-1500 is about 8 grams lighter. Its also more efficient as Bruce pointed out.
But this plane is more of an experiment 3D-ish type of plane. So should i automatically pick the 2822-1275 for more thrust at less amps?

I bought both motors over a year ago so they are just sitting here. I wonder if better options are now available. They are both max 8 amps. I have a plush 12 amp ESC for them. Lots of different props to try out but the 8/4 will work well according to flyBrushless info. I also bought several slow fly GWS like the 8/4.3 but i recently read they suck.
