I just happened to stumble onto this thread. I've built a couple LT-40 in the past. While the first one was a slimer, the second one was converted to electric with an Astro Flight 25 geared and 16 round cells. A Bit heavy but it flew.
As I advanced, I bought as Mega 22-30-3 and MEC gearbox which made a big difference. I flew the LT-40 with as many as 20 cells and it never bothered the plane a bit. The darned thing would just float on by whilst trying to land it.
The LT-40 makes a good float plane as I've seen several being used as such. So go ahead and don't be afraid to stick a pair of floats on her.
