Just thought I'd share this with you all. After reading the reviews on how well the Durafly D.H.100 Vampire glides with power off I thought I'd turn one into a slopey.

I went with a simple cheap set up, all Hobby King gear other than a Dream-Flight battery. Total cost was under $70.

I maidened it on the weekend and it flew great... in fact better than great. The winds on Saturday were about 10-12kts. It turns on a dime and rolls very fast, but is also very stable. On Sunday the winds at Long Reef (Sydney) jumped up to 20+kts, which was way too strong for a light foaming, making the landings hard. Never the less it's tuff as nails, so a rough landing was more humorous than dramatic.

Value for money, this is an amazing set up. I think I'll buy a second one and set it up with some decent servos and a LiPo

Are the booms reinforced or just foam?

They are just foam, but they are pretty strong. You could get away with some light combat and not be concerned. Saying that there are some comments on the HK reviews where guys have push carbon rod down the middle before assembling them.

I have been thinking about scratch building one of these as a sloper just recently.

Originally I thought I might try making a mould ( never done one before ) but now Im thinking perhaps a lost foam fuse might be easier.

In any case I think I will buy the durafly model and see how that works out.

Did you leave the EDF in the model?

I've just received plans from RCM&E for a Vampire designed for a turbine but, with a little tweaking it should be good for the slope.

Glen i just got plans from great plans on tuesday to start on a slopey for Manilla 2013.

I was finking of making a wood fuse and booms and them molding them so I can have a glass one.
