First LEG Build

Well it took me close to two years, though there was a large pause in between, to finish my LEG P-63 Kingcobra.

I purchased the 4 disc DVD and I felt it was a great help. Not sure I would have done as well without it. I also have applied some of those techniques to other build projects.

My biggest issue was with finishing. I did everything as close to the video as I could, but the only difference was since I only have a Lowe's available, I had to use Valspar spray paint instead of the Home Depot stuff, (name just escaped my mind). I ended up using a silver "metalic spray" for the main color, but despite 24 hrs of cure time, it still comes off easily anywhere the plane is handled. Also, I was not able to find the exact low tack tape that Jack recommended. I ended up spending 9 bucks for a "drafting" tape, but not sure it made much of a difference. Anywhere I used take, the silver paint got sort of messed up. Using Yellow was very difficult, as it does not cover well, and needed at least 3-4 coats.

Any suggestions in taping off silver areas would surely be appreciated.

Also, what speed of wind will I need to fly this bird? I will weigh it and post that later. I am in the middle of a move and its freezing out there, so I'm not likely to fly it for a while.

Please give unabashed critique so I can learn. By the way, the paint scheme came off a website called AG-26 squadron: http://www.ag26.org/

Thank you

Not bad for a first LEG build,

..too bad about the fingerprints on the Lowes paint. Can you mist with a Satin Clear coat,...maybe a DEFT product to provide some protection?

Thanks.

Does anyone have a strong preference for the Krylon paints?

Any suggestions for the metallic silver paint?

I did think about a clear coat, and still may do it but I had not seen in suggested in Jack's DVD's.

I'd appreciate any further critique.

Also,

Any good tips on low tack tape and how to prevent the tape from peeling paint off?

Thanks

Pretty sweet! Hard to believe it's your first build. Low tack blue tape, for delicate surfaces is pretty good. I think 3m has it with the orange label on the inside of the roll. A bit spendier than the regular blue tape.

It's going to look just fine in the air! All else is gravy. Nice build.
